The FX Loop

Okay,
I've just recieved my Ispot adaptor and lots of good new patch cables. Haven't been able to play all my pedals in a go cause i didn't have enogu cables.
ANYWAY.
My list right now is:
Fulltone Clyde Standard
MI Audio Neo Fuzz
Keeley TS9
Maxon Tube Compressor
Boss CE-2
Boss DD-6

What exactly is the effects loop. Is it just a loop that allows you to put pedals between the preamp and poweramp?
What "should" i put in the loop and why is it supposed to sound better in my loop..
I know it's been asked a million and one times. But is this a good order to put my pedals in (the 'right' way, so i can muck around and find out what i like best). Always better to start with that is supposedly the right way then work around it.

Wah > Comp > Fuzz > OD > Chorus > Delay
Would i stick the Chorus and the Delay in the FX loop?
Thanks in advance.

Re: The FX Loop

Put the CE-2 and the DD-6 in the loop (where modulation and time effects generally go). Put everything else in front of the amp.

If you go the direct-into-amp route then the order you have at the end of the post will work out just fine. Although...do you want to compress your wah? If you do just move the comp to the front of the chain, before the wah.

The order you listed is perfect. Modulation and ambience effects (e.g., chorus, delay, reverb, flanger, phaser, etc) work well in the effect loop because they provide a spatial effect. The idea is to place them as far to the end of the signal chain as possible; a reverb unit after the speaker would give the ideal reverb sound, but this is not possible in real life. So we at least put it after our distortion, and sometimes in the effect loop so it goes after the amp's tone knobs.

Although what you listed is fine this is how I would do it.
effect return < chorus < delay < effect send < amp < OD < comp < wah < fuzz

I usually like to put chorus after delay, but those 2 can be switched around whenever you feel like it.

Re: The FX Loop

Some good advice here, my $0.02 is that I would definitely put the DD6 in the loop, straight delays always (IMO) sound better in the loop. I like running my chorus, especially a nice sounding analog chorus like the CE, in front of the amp. You can still get that nice chorus sound for clean stuff, but with gain you can get the Uni-vibey thing going on. It kinda depends on whether you want that studio chorus sound for solos or if you want to do some weirder stuff. Of course, the DD6 in reverse mode can give you some cool effects before the gain as well. You could always use 2, one in front and one in the loop with different settings... Sorry, I digress.

Experiment, have fun, figure out what works best for you!
