So is his tan-a$$edness.

Met him here in Portland. Very cool guy. Still my all-time favorite.

how fitting that this came back to life as i'm getting ready to order a demon to try in a guitar.

You know - there have have been a few Lynch posts lately, that really make believe this is the truest thread on the whole forum. We may argue about Yngwie, Vai, Clapton, EJ, Page, Demartini and whoever; But is there any hate for Lynch? Or is he really the baddest mutha around. I think he may be!

Re: The GEORGE LYNCH is the baddest mutha around thread!

I saw George Lynch open for Yngwie and from what I remember the two were complete opposites; Yngwie was running around all over the stage and singing backup vocals to Doogie White while George was very stationary with his position at stage. He did move around some but nothing like Yngwie. Nevertheless, I was left in awe in how simple he made complex guitar playing look. He plays with such a calm demeanor and actually looks at his fretbaord while playing. Since then I have really come to appreciate his skill and melodic tastes.

Dude!
He lays waste!

tooth and nail was wicked!
If only Don could sing better ha ha

Saw George on the Lynch Mob RE-evolution tour. Got to hang with him after the show and he was absolutely one of the nicest rock stars I have had the pleasure to meet. He sat with me for at least 10 minutes just BS-ing about what gear he was using. He broke his whole rig down for me and really seemed interested in gear and talking about tone. He is a monster player and a helluva nice guy

Yep. I went and rechecked.... still the baddest mutha around :D

Re: The GEORGE LYNCH is the baddest mutha around thread!

After reading this entire thead, first I have to "HI!" to Vettafan, I to am a disiple of Derryl. If anyone contributing to this thead thinks GL is the man...there is a reason that George picked Derryl to come and play on "Terra del Feugo". Derryl is the MAN! No disrespect to George, but anyone checking out trhis thread needs to check out Derryl Gabel. One the best Improv guys out there. With that said, George is a big influence and will always enjoy listening to him no matter what!!!

Re: The GEORGE LYNCH is the baddest mutha around thread!

George has killer chops and tone, there can be no arguement about that.

Some folks just aren't good at the "sit-in-and-jam" thing and George may be one of them from the sounds of some of this. Possibly because he was working on his own thing so hard that he never really copped anyone else's thing or came out of the woodshed enough to jam. I've known a number of guitarist who were incredible, but so idiosyncratic that they really couldn't sit in with anyone else. Maybe that's the case with George.

Years ago I remember analyzing his technique a bit and got a sense that he was kind of unorthodox, like someone who was stubborn about figuring things out his own way instead of learning every Clapton riff and copying everyone else's technique. I do recall reading that he was largely self-taught and doesn't read (fill me in if I'm off base here, those who know better). His left hand in particular fascinated me, he plays very flat-fingered rather than on the fingertips, unlike so many Berklee-grad shredders. But it sure does work for him! Cool double-stops and very muscular vibrato yet plays great scalar runs too.

I think part of the reason he never got his due (outside of the guitar inner circle) is that he was a victim of never having worked with the right songwriter (the Yngwie syndrome?). The tunes seemed to hover in a grey zone, having some pop sensibility but not enough for mainstream radio (with a few exceptions) yet not quite extreme enough to be pure metal or shred in that "no regard for fads" way. So it was listenable by folks who liked both, but the AOR wonks probably never got it. Regardless, I think it's nice to let him know he's appreciated.

My Band "The Resistance" Opened for Dokken during there "Dysfunctional" Tour in St. Louis at "Mississippi Nights", Sold Out:Over Capacity Crowd". We Where All Original 80's ish STUFF. He couldn't get over the fact that I play a right handed guitar upside down without restringing it, kept walking past the stage twisting his head all sideways to try to figure out what the hell I was doing; I almost couldn't concentrate during sound check. The Next day my band members told me that he and pilson where standing on my side of the stage during Our set just pointing at me like "DUDE WTF!?!?!?!?" Oh and they failed to Mention that we where invited to Party at there Hotel after the Gig, wasn't informed until the next Band Practice "BASTARDS" Lynch is truly a Great Guy as where all the Band Members sans Don Dokken; He's a True Prick. Opening For Them Was My #1 Dream in Life anything past That Night has just been Eh!

I am considering a Scremin Demon for my next project.. wow this thread was started in 2005....

Re: The GEORGE LYNCH is the baddest mutha around thread!

Add me to this list. Mr Scary is by far my biggest "musical" influence. I've listened and loved all the shredders.. but few of them can play 2 notes and you know INSTANTLY that it's them... GL only needs 1 or 2 notes.
