The GEORGE LYNCH is the baddest mutha around thread!

Re: The GEORGE LYNCH is the baddest mutha around thread!

George rules! His playing & tone are SICK, expecially on the Dokken records, IMO.

I had a chance to meet him a few years ago at the Mason Jar in Phoenix and he was totally cool, down to earth. He stuck around after the show & talked to fans, took pics, etc.

Yes everyone knows how awesomely talented GL is. . . but to say that everyone is a knockoff of EVH? ? ? come one bro. Yeah Eddie practically patented fingertapping. . . . but he is a jackass. And everyone copied Hendrix, and everyone copied Iommi, and Freddie Fender, and everyone copied etc. etc. etc.
True story: "This guy that used to live a few rooms down from me owned anything that read EVH, he copied his every lick, he had six of his guitars, he KNEW VAN HALEN!
Anyway he told me how he saved money for a year and bought backstage passes to see the legend, and when he finally met him, he was all shaking and jelly-kneed he reached to shake his hand, and Eddie shook his hand, sort of. . . then Eddie made a grimace and wiped his hand off on his shirt. . . my friend was crushed. . . He sold me one of those EVH Kramers for 100 bucks! HA HA HA HA" and it wasn't worth it, I hate Kramer LOL but I had to help him deal with the grief!

Now GO Listen to some old DOKKEN albums. . . . get the vibe, listen to the squeals and pinch harmonics, how silky smooth they are. . . . how fast they are, and the fills he makes up. . . . very good stuff. I wish I were that smooth! I don't worship the man, Only Randy Rhoads is worthy of such praise.

My two cents this morning. . . . .

Come On! GEORGE ! ! ! where are you????

Your friend was obsessed, plain and simple. He needed another hobby....lol That and he probably met him when he was drunk.

I met EVH too back in 1995. He was very cool to talk too, shook my hand and my friends' too that were there and we got a pic with the band. He was very genuine and seemed pretty excited about getting on stage. We met them before the show. At that time he had been dry for a year. I know he's fallen off the wagon since then but at that time, it was so new to be playing live without drinking. He really appeared happy and loving every minute of it.

Eddie's said that himself, not in those exact words, but he's made it known in several interviews.

I attribute the moodiness to the booze. Growing up with a person in a similar situation, I can tell you that moodiness is common.

I know. Sad really that he was so young when it started.

Any, back in topic.....did you see my post about the Little 59? I thought for sure you'd say something about it...lol.

what this?

Well, I filled my ears full of Back for the Attack on the way to, while at, and on the way home from work today....lol. Then I picked up my Strat with Little '59 in the bridge and started playing some stuff off that album, Cry of the Gypsy, Night by Night. I'll be damned if that Little '59 gets a good Lynch rhythm tone. It was through my Crate GX-15, bass in full, mids at 4, treble at 8, gain on full. Pretty crunchy and cutting just like the album. I knew there was a reason why I kept that pickup, now I know what it was....lol.

hey bro IF it got you there then i am real jealous!:laugh2:
I had to spend mucho bucks to get his tones!

Yup, that post.

I wouldn't call it "exact" but it was definitely in the ballpark, and pretty convincing to my ears. All I was missing was a hint of delay.

Fender Strat, maple board, Little 59 in the bridge. I did add a "neck on" switch a while back so I can have neck-bridge or neck-mid-bridge combinations.

here is what Mr scary himself said for the ultimate tone
"a single coil bite with tony iommi's crunch":laugh2: :beerchug:

in my other post in this thread,it might have seemed like i did'nt think that much of gl.i do think he's a great player.i remember back in the eightys (when mtv actually showed videos)i really like all the dokken songs(videos)lynch's playing did catdh my attention.real smooth.i just think that if eddie was'nt born, rock and this so called "new"form of heavy metal would'nt exist.it suck even more.i really dont care for this melodic, happy major chords and scales style thats growing.to me ,most of these bands are pantera wannabe's .and if you read the vinnie paul interview in guitar world last month,he stated that it was evh that made dime pickup the guitar.its all a big circle that always comes back to,well i wont keep repeating myself.this is just how i see things.does'nt matter if i'm right or wrong, its just one sloppy players opinion.

I think for me the THING i love most about GL is that he never did the ed trip like so many others did
aside from his guitars having one pup and one knob back then he SOUNDED NOTHING LIKE eddie:beerchug:
and that is good
he has his own thing and i respect that.
i liked his tone, phrasing and his attack is addictive
eddie VH is brilliant and there is NO denying he is THEE ROCK GUITARIST
but i just am a bit sad that george is still throwing down and ed is pretty much washed up it seems?

his last tour the playing was verey uninspired and lacked any fire to me
he didnt even have any new bits to his solo spot!:smack:

He did at the one in Little Rock. It was a little three note, rh-hammer on lick that went on for about five minutes...on the SAME three notes. Man he was wasted at that show. He did a lot better in Dallas the next night.

The Dallas show was great. I wasn't too keen on his tone 100% though. Too much pre-amp distortion and not enough punch. Still, he played great. I've seen him play and sound 100% better though......Balance Tour. :beerchug:

Yes. There were people getting up to use the bathroom and refill their beer during his solo it was so bad. He did 1000 times better in Dallas. Both shows were pretty good, though.

I agree, Erik. Of course, I would have liked that tour much better, too. No way my dad would have let me drive to Memphis to see a concert.

Hey George! When are you coming to Arkansas? We're in despirate need of some Lynch!!!
