the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

I have not heard or seen a video yet. So how many people are interested so far? I'd love to get an idea- and I am sure a video and sound clips will help this along. We would need enough orders to put this into some sort of limited production and get the price down.
Mincer, what's the official word on what's going on with this? Since things like this were Olson's baby and Olson's not here anymore, who do we speak to?

I didn't realize that. Did he leave the company or move to a different posistion?

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

since this has been so wicked putting together, We should call it the Raganbucker or Damienbucker...

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Pepe,
I think BloodRose was asking about your tweaked Hybro with the Seth screw coil... Provided that the project hasn't been derailed, I'm still very interested. I really like the idea of the '59/Custom with JP wiring and it'd be cool to have an equally versatile neck pickup. If the Hybro doesn't work out, I suppose I'll end up with a Jazz or WLH.

Yes, spot on!! Thanks for the assist!

Dammit! I'm 57 and I still didn't learn to read properly! :ban:

Thank you for pointing it out, dystrust! :thanks:

To Bloodrose: sorry for the pea-brain fart!

As *I* see it; the Seth screw coil-modded Hy-Bro, either 24,75" scale or 25,5" scale will work just as well.

Hope This Helps, Bloodrose!

Yours very truly,

Ok! Thanks! Yeah, cuz you orig said the orig was too fat (in 25.5), but didnt say how the tweaked one was. Kewl

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

I totally missed it. I guess working retail during the holiday will cause you to miss some things tho...
Oh, working retail during the holiday will make you miss things in your own home. I have 20-odd years in that field and I'm glad i'm out. LOL

I was hoping that this pickup would've been ready for the holiday but I don't know what's going on with it anymore.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

I no longer see the point of making it as a Forum run. The only tangible benefit of making it a Forum pickup is the group pricing. Waiting a year and spending all this effort/time just to save 80 or 100 bucks over doing one's own individual Custom Shop order was simply not worth it. The time many of us spent typing posts throughout this whole process, only to have all our discussions and votes thrown out by executive order later, is worth FAR more than those 80 or 100 bucks. And if the time invested isn't enough to have broken even, then if we had each individually ordered the pickup we wanted early last year, we'd already have broken even simply by playing a gig or two with the pickup. Not to mention that each of us would have exactly the pickup desired, with no compromise. This has been a complete waste of time, and it has only gone from bad to worse in every way along the path. The wrong people were put in charge, and the wrong decisions have been made, one after the other.

IMO, the best possible result at this point would be for Duncan to step in, immediately strip all control and power from those in charge of this project, and scrap the actual Forum run of the pickup. Then, Duncan should take this whole ****ed process as a petition for a new regular production pickup to be added to the product line: a neck position match for a '59/C Hybrid bridge pickup. That achieves several things: 1) It gives Duncan a very good pickup for their catalog, which could be fairly popular if marketed right. 2) It makes our entire ****-show worth something in the end, by giving the entire aftermarket (not just we Forumites) a very cool pickup. 3) It lowers the price to a normal Duncan production line price.

In short, Duncan should just say **** the Forum slugs, steal our idea, and make the pickup.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

This seems more like Kojak's custom order pickup rather than a forum pickup, and I'd be genuinely surprised if more than 10 people order it at this point. I don't see this happening.

What became of the original discussion and voting thread? :scratchch

They're still somewhere. Nothing was deleted to my knowledge. Those became really messy, too, though. It was originally DankStar running the show, right?

I don't blame either DankStar or Pepe because I think with this one they were both trying to herd cats.

I'll be honest... I would've gotten frustrated with the circular arguments about what the pickup should be and just stuck with the original name and made a decision to get an existing '59 neck coil mated with with what would've been a Custom neck coil, since that's what everybody was looking to match the bridge version of. But that's me, and I wasn't running the show. There were other factors that I wasn't involved in since this is actually a project from the mothership for the forum users and not a forum-run project.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

How many people were involved in beta-testing? was Kojak the only one?

Pepe's the only one that posted anything. I thought there was some testing by some Duncan employees, too, and there were supposed to be clips posted by them... But... :dunno:

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

It wasn't DankStar originally - it was DarkMatter.

He seems to take responsibility for the way things went - but he's a good guy and it really wasn't his fault. At that time, the main problem was the number of participants who wanted their own personal custom pickup to be the forum pickup, and it was either their way or the highway.

That's right, Darkmatter. Sorry, DankStar. LOL

Exactly. Like I said, circular arguments. I just thought that the idea was defined pretty early on when everybody said "a neck to match the '59/C bridge". But I might be oversimplifying the idea.

Anywho, let's not start that circular argument again. LOL I don't mean to instigate.

I don't blame DarkMatter or Pepe in any way. This one, for some reason or another, just got out of hand.
