the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Lol I blame the people who kept pushingh their own specifications for the pickup after we voted on the general idea.

Well, I don't think blaming anybody is going to help us anymore.

What we need to do is find out what's going on with the pickup, now.

Hopefully we find out sometime this week. I imagine nobody is in the home office on the weekends so lets see if we can find out this week.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Let's not forget that there was another run of design and voting before this one which only went into the sand.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

This seems more like Kojak's custom order pickup
Really? The 75 actual voters and 4,135 viewers of the actual voting thread beg to differ... ;)

I'd be genuinely surprised if more than 10 people order it at this point. I don't see this happening.
If the 45 PMs I've received on the matter are any indication, then I'd say, be prepared to be "genuinely surprised", LOL! :cool2:

Thanks myaccount and gilmour. I still carry some guilt over this but it was not why I disappeared for awhile. Hopefully this can still result in a good pickup.

Are you kidding, man? If it wasn't for the preliminary work you did, I don't think my effort alone would've been enough to cross the finish line, so to speak.

If nobody thanked you for your efforts, let me rectify it by doing it now, publically. If this p'up ever makes it as a production item, make no mistake; it'll be because of you just as much as me and all the others involved in the project.

Yours very truly,

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Projects like this require front line management and DarkMatter and LtKojak both bravely stepped up to that role. Regardless of any shortcomings, serious kudos to them!

Never in my life have I met a "perfect" manager who I thought did everything the way I would do it. Furthermore, we put a lot of pressure on and place a lot of demands on our fellow "bros" concerning these projects, despite their power being largely limited by those higher up the chain (most of the delays this time around really aren't LtKojak's fault, for instance). Love 'em or hate 'em, a good manager maintains an eye on the end goal and keeps the larger group moving toward it.

Sadly, this forum has become less and less forgiving of its own patrons and it's unfortunate to see that respect has taken a backseat way more often than it should.

I also agree with GilmourD's analogy of "herding cats"... I understand that the process as a whole has endured some notable bumps and bruises, which in turn has soured a lot of interest. However, I don't think LtKojak or DarkMatter ever got into this with the intention of taking advantage of the system or alienating fellow members.

As I've mentioned before, the "forum pickup" is a grand idea, but it's getting harder and harder to create without polarizing the masses or upsetting lots of people and there is no tried-and-true design method that has been followed to ensure continued success. Even SD has dropped the ball from time to time and, not only are they the ones this project relies on most, they're the whole reason we're here! So a certain degree of patience and flexibility is a requirement in efforts like this.

As always, if you have a custom design in mind and you want it NOW, then call the Custom Shop.

Otherwise, please try to be supportive of your fellow forum bros, hold your tongue if the words won't help, and be glad that we might **eventually** have access to something cool and original that non-members may not.

;)

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

So, GilmourD; has the new responsible for taking the Hy-Bro project to the Custom Shop got a name yet?

Inquiring minds would like to know. :cool2:

Masta'c, Well said brother, well said. I try to be understanding of the process and try to never (dont believe I ever have) say anything inflamitory toward those involved with these projects. As much as Id LOVE to be on the cutting edge and beta test one of these, I wont volunteer because I know that with work and family responsibilities, Id never be able to deliver timely enough. So, kudos to those who do! Im just anxious to see how it progresses!

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Reading some of the most recent posts, since I havent been here a couple of days.. I wanted to add my .02. First, Yes, this hasnt gone as smoothly as in the past and I think we have lost sight that this is a benefit to us. We seem to be alittle spoiled in that we want a miracle pickup (since we had a couple that were out of the park hits) at a cheap price. Yes, we could all go to the CS,but Id still like to save a few $$ as I cant spend that on a pickup right now.. Plus, I really would like to have a good match for my hybrid.. And for those saying we should just let SD take over, well, the first attempt didnt seem to have been on the mark. Id have been displeased ordering that and have it not been correct. So we did have the benefit of a Beta test and a possible correction.

Lets all keep sight that this is a treat to us to have input and the reduced pricing.. And remember that we need to try to work as a team/family to make it happen. There have been a couple of custom runs that did not appeal to me (wasnt what I wanted or needed) but I didnt complain or poo poo the process. Was I disappointed? Yes, a small bit, cuz it wasnt what "I" wanted, but again, it was a treat we collectively got to design and for that particular pickup, I just didnt order one but was happy for the bros that it met their needs.

I dont actively participate in forums for other brands, but I dont think they do anything like this, So, lets all be thankful for the opportunity, restore our faith in the system and hopefully if there is another run, that pickup will meet your needs if this one doesnt..

Just sayin... Peace and love Bros...

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

Fully and wholeheartedly agreed, IMHO this process got so convoluted because it (and the forum bros voting for it) was basically split in almost half for most of the time, making choosing a clear winner harder than it would/should have been and although I also might not have agreed with certain "Executive decisions" as it was put earlier, in all honesty, in retrospect I cannot blame the individual(s) that felt that such decisions needed to be made if the process was to move forward and eventually come to an end. It had NOT have been an easy ride and agree or disagree with the course of action, I can only understand where they were coming from.

Actually, I'm still not sure. I'm one of those inquiring minds. I really would love to know.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

I hope that with this last turnover somebody from the SD Co.would respond the forum's questions with the knowledge only an employee could know or have access to the right info, as it is now, most available product info is wrong or misleading.

In short, we need a name that would interact with the SDUGF on a regular basis.

HTH,

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

I do, and we will have several other people coming on board as well (see the announcement). When I took over the admin duties from Scott, I was told that Danny in the UK was demoing the prototype. He would have a video filmed, and then I could bring that back here to see if it generated enough interest to go into limited production (generated enough interest= orders from forum members). The goal would then be to have it ready at a User Group Day later this year. If anyone knows anything different than I do, please let me know.

Re: the Hy-Bro neck is in!

There isn't a confirmed day, or confirmation it would even happen. It was being thrown around as late summer, but as I said, we will see how things go.
