The Hype of the TubeScreamer

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

It is hyped, but the formula has produced better pedals than the standard TS-9. The 805 is TS-based, but with much better active 3-band tone controls and a wider gain range.

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

I honestly get why a bunch of guys hate TS style pedals for home use

There's no point in using one at "listening" volumes through a clean amp, IMO... Just a bunch of jagged-ness. (Although cranking a pre-amp and stacking one in front can sound nice at low volumes.)

And I have always said I use a RS9 because I'm an old man and used to it.

I have also always said that these days there are so many different flavors of green overdrive, you have to be able to find one that is just right for you, be it Bad Moneky, Green Screamer, Green Rhino, TS9DX, or whatever. More bass, less mids, more gain, dual drives....It's all out there.

I also use a Stamps Drive-O-matic as my "main" favorite screamer, for example. Regular + hot channels, tight / loose switch, and presence.

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

Maxon st9+ is another version worth a look, especially as a distortion booster. (in other words I still want me one lol)

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

Aren't the switches in the TS7 basically the same as Boss switches but lesser quality?

If so, when it fails, the Boss switches are about $10 to buy. It's a cheap and easy repair and you can upgrade the quality of the switch when it begins failing.

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

I'll probably sell my TS7 while it's still in it's prime and fund an OD9.

If somebody wants it as a third TS7, just lmk.

The OD9 is a fantastic pedal.

You could do that. I chose to spend $159 on a pedal that I liked more.

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

Or....the SD9Mod is a helluva pedal. HIGHLY underrated.

Gain has great range from OD to Diet, switches mod it all kinds of cool ways. It can really run a range.

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

This whole autocorrect thing is not working out for us, as a species.

Re: The Hype of the TubeScreamer

I love Tube Screamers!

I own the standard Ibanez TS808 and the Maxon OD808, and I used to own the Maxon OD9. I dig the TS808 the most, but they are all pretty close with their own slight variation in character which you can match to your particular amp/guitar/ears.

I also own the MXR Classic Overdrive, and that is great as well when you want a less mid-hyped EQ, and a more grainy overall feel.

I'd love to try the Duncan 805.
