The Jack White sound.

After having heard him play live with Meg at bluesfest last week, I have developped a facination with Jack White's guitar sound. There is just something about it that gets to me in a good way.

Does anybody know if there is a SD pickup that could help me get that sound. Not a perfect imitation, but just something similar, so I can have fun with it.

Re: The Jack White sound.

SD is not the answer most likely. Get the crappiest no name pickup out of the most obscure guitar you can find and that should do it for ya.

Re: The Jack White sound.

Come to think of it, that is soooo perfect.

So lets say pickups is not the solution for that dirty and rough low distortion/overdrive....is there something out there that could help me? A pedal perhaps?

Take my post and switch the word "pickup" to "pedal".

That will give you the answer.:naughty::biglaugh:

I believe he uses a Digitech Whammy pedal, at least he did on the new album according to the interview with Guitar World.

Re: The Jack White sound.

insert ****ty sears 60's guitar into ****ty 60's sears amp and crank up the amp!

Am I the only one who feels arroused by this concept?:lmao:

Actually, a friend of mine has an old beat 15 watt class A amp...that could work. I can also probably drop an old gibson lp pup from a 70s lp that was given to me a while back. Might drop that in an epiphone hollowbody, and just make the whole thing scream.

I think to get the sound I need, I'm going to have to stop thinking fancy, and get down and dirty. This is so refreshing after years of having a perfectly tuned setup. I will be looking into that digitech wah pedal, as I am curently in the market for a wah pedal anyways.

If anybody else has any advice keep em coming.

Re: The Jack White sound.

buy a crappy (or in some cases not so crappy) guitar, FWIW, Eastwood makes a JW style axe or 2...also I coudl get VERY close with my old Hagstrom III. Remember this...you DO NOT want a trad Fender or Gibson type guitar/pickup combo as a jump off platform...even better would be an old Harmony, Silvertone, Kay or other such axe, a hollowbody if you can get it and leave whatever junk pickup thats in it, in it...even if it's a weak output and noisy piece of crap...thats all the better!

Jack plays through Fender Twin Reverbs and Silvertones, his Silvertones are the bigger heads and he uses the stock 6x10 cab that comes with them but any "low buck"m "old school" NON Fender, Marshall, Vox etc amp will get you close and the MOST important thing abotu Jacks tone IMO is the use of a Big Muff...just keep in mind that a Strat/Tele single coil or a Gibson style bucker into the Big Muff will NOT get you the JW vibe at all...also abuse your Whammy pedal and EH POG...

Not a Wah pedal, a Whammy pedal. Think Tom Morello and every solo and song he plays. It has a whammy pedal in it.

I started listening to the White Stripes years ago and Jacks rig didn't change much until recent years...and no, not very often! HA!
