The KLON KTR Madness has begun!

The prices on these have massively increased in the last several days as rumor has it that they are supposedly no longer being made. Same circuitry as the original KLON but in a different KLON enclosure. Wonderful pedal and if you have one your net worth just went up a bit..lol.

It's ironic that a pedal whose entire purpose was to bypass insane speculative pricing has now become the object of insane speculative pricing.

its a great pedal, i know a few guys who have both the klon and ktr. basically sounds the same, and not in the soul food sounds the same kinda way. $1000 for a pedal is ridiculous if you ask me. it does its trick really damn well though

After seeing the inside of a KTR, I can't imagine paying very much for one. Sure it sounds good but ribbon connectors? Come on.

Even for normal retail prices, in that range, it should be a hand wired pedal with excellent attention to detail.

The KTR has the appearance that it was assembled by children.

Great pedal...but I couldn't tell the difference between a KTR and my BYOC Silver Pony, so I will keep the pony. I don't fetishize pedals- I am pretty practical.

It's just that for the cost that these things command, someone could easily buy any number of handwired Klones that are expertly made using top quality parts.

I have no issues with paying for quality, as long as the quality is there. With the KTR, you get a machine made PCB (with no serviceable parts) that is simply placed inside a box and screwed down.

I agree 100% that if it wasn’t Bill Finnegan they would be like any other Klone. I also agree that other handwired Klones are the ones that should be the most desirable.

I have to chuckle as I came out very well financially on the original Klon I had profit wise and now potentially can do similar with the KTR pedals I have. Gotta love hype!!

I’ve built quite a few, and kept one
modified for bass on on my bass board. I have sold so many for 40.00its insane. I don’t understand all the hype, but it’s an ok pedal with a specific sound.

Me too. There are plenty of Klones on the market that are better built, sound the same and cost way less than the KTR.

There is a video out there where the dude from BYOC places an original silver Klon Centaur in one bypass loop and a BYOC Silver Pony in another. He plays and switches back and forth between each, keeping the settings on both pedals the same as one another.

Regardless of the range of the controls, there is no difference in the way they sound to me.

I built a Silver Pony II last month and took it to a friend's house. He has a KTR, a Rimrock Mythical Overdrive and an ARC Klone. Same thing. I couldn't tell which was which if I wasn't looking at the pedals.

It's a cool circuit and one that deserves recognition for being useful but man, I couldn't justify spending a crazy amount of money to get a "real" Klon.

I also read that J Rockett was the company tasked to build the first round of KTRs. The Archer line is probably as close to the original as any while staying in a reasonable price range.
