Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

thanks for the pics and reviews, sounds like you guys had a kickass time. Were the makers actually selling their items there? or was it just a place for them to bring out there toys for show.

I know Jolly will be disappointed to hear that, despite Joe's gracious invitation to stick around for some of Anna's Famous Flautas, I had to hit the road for the 3 hour trip back home :(
You missed the greatest meal you could have ever had.;)

Can someone tell me how many amp companies Matchless founder, Mark Sampson, is going to create in his life??? He started Matchless, Bad Cat, Speedster?, and now Star. One funny story is that Curly and I were standing there watching a guy demo these expensive little Star amps, and some dufus puts his foot up on the amp while he was playing.
he wasn't playing that great, either
I really wanted to check out Mark's amps because he has designed so many great amps now, but we kinda missed out while that guy was playing ... he said, "set it real clean" :smack:
he just had a few amps, which all looked like small combos ... they may have been 30 watt, 1 x 12s

I plan to be up there again ;)
as it was, I could've eaten at Joe's and not lost much time, since I just got stuck in traffic after I left :(
It was a long day, though, and I knew if I ate some Latin food, I'd want a beer, and if I had a beer, it would be a tough drive home, so maybe next time

and Puck, the Lonestar Special was pretty cool ... I didn't play that embossed 1 x12, though

well, Truetone Music is a store in Santa Monica, and they were definitely selling the lines they carry
most, if not all of the makers only sell through dealers.

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

Well, if they've had these in the past, I pre-apologize for the next comment...

"It's about time they had a high end booteek amp show"

It's been often said as of late, but we are in the golden age of amplification. No doubt. So many incredible choices out there right now. There are small companies that can out-Marshall Marshall, out-Vox Vox, out-Fender Fender and then also find a bunch of new tones in between.

I believe history will concur with this thought in 50 years.

P.S. I know that James at Bad Cat knew about this show. I forwarded the information to him several months ago via email and he even emailed me back and thanked me.

But, that all being said, the guys putting this thing on, Spector and others, might have alienated a large handful of the folks that didn't attend. YOu never know.

What is that snakeskin strat w/ the bigsby???

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

That looks like a fun day!
I'm really intigued by that hi gain Matchless!

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

the snakeskin guitar was a Siegmund

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

Siegmund is definitely one of the greats! His designs aren't copies of anyone, they're totally original. He also uses some tubes I've never seen before like little tiny ones that are half the diameter of a 12AX7. Strange designs, and his cabinetry is just killer. Notice that his combos have the chassis in the middle, so it looks like a head on a cab.

As for highgain stuff, Rivera was sharing a room with Minarek guitars.....you know, the guitars shaped like a flame. Mesa had the Stilletto, Orange had the Rocker amps, Randall, Framus, Tech 21, and the entry level targeted Drive Amps. Sounded like great bedroom metal amps for LOW dollars! The rep told me they manufacture the amps for several other companies overseas, so the quality is very good.

If I could have walked out of there with anything I wanted, it would have been a 65Amp head/2-12, Matchless Independence, White Hiwatt halfstack, Trussart Tele, and half the Z. Vex line of pedals!!!! I WISH!!!!!

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

The 1930's era radio-style cabinets have always struck me as being particularily beautiful.

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

I"m going to give the little Vox AC30CC head a try. Reports later.

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

I hate to admit this, but after hearing the Chinese made Vox's with Blue Celestion speakers next to the Marshall 18W Handwired's.........imagine a room of people giving the nod to the Vox!!! The little Marshall sounded nice, but those Vox's....mark my words, they'll be the biggest selling amp next year! All the guys with Vox 90's reissues better dump'em quick, because they just plummeted in value!

Z-Vex pedals are soo bloody cool...
I have borrowed a Fuzzfactory from a friend, there is nothing in there...but what amazing sounds:D
Actually I belive that it was the first US undercover pedal that I have tried...was some years ago now, it consumes very little power by the way, he changed the battery last year after it has been used since the 90's:D

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

Rid, I sat with Zachary Vex for awhile and listened to him talk about his pedals. He's a guy who's really cool! He always dreams of sounds that haven't been done before, then creates them. He has a new pedal, The Machine that accentuates nothing but odd order harmonics, which he likes to see paired with OD's, Fuzz's, or amp distortion.
So ugly sounding, it's utterly beautiful!!! Also, those probe pedals are insane! The Tremolo probe can be used as a volume pedal or trem pedal, depending on how your foot is positioned over the theramin type copper panel. The Fuzz Probe.... I gotta have one...so killer!!! The wah probe....ah, I'd rather use a wah. The Seek wah is cool for clean rhythm playing. The Fuzz Factory has become one of my favorite fuzz's. I'm thinking of selling off a bunch of sh!t and buying some Z.Vex stuff....just cool as hell!!!!!

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

Yeah the soundscapes are so endless in his stuff, he is a marvel.
For sure his stuff is not everybody, but it is so cool sounding:D
I am hoping to get his new ringmodulator thingy, it sounds great.

Re: The LA Amp Show was AWESOME! Pics Pics and more Pics!!!

those 65 amps look SCHAAAWEEEET!!!!

we're all super jealous!!! LOL!!!
