I think the trend in amps is to take the LOUD classics of yesterday, and make them sound just as good, but in a lower wattage format. In the past, the problem was that the low end wasn't tight enough, or the highend got too shrill. Amp designers nowadays are working to fix that, as evidenced by 65Amps, Fargen, and Siegmund. The Fargens are all different, much like Dr. Z's. He's really into boutique Plexi's, Deluxes, and now a Dumble, Two Rock, Fuch's type amp, the VOS....Velvet OD Special.
My favorite Fargens were the Mighty Plex and the VOS.
Siegmund strikes me as a 'mad scientist' type of amp designer....he's a true original!
He doesn't stop at typical tube types....he uses all kinds of rare tubes, and makes sure his transformers and components are the best out there. I'm not sure I dig the snakeskin look, but I absolutely love the creative cabinetry he uses!
