GJ - Did they have the new AC30CCh head there?

That is on my list of things to check out as well.

Cool pics and write-up, Bro. Well done. I hope you saw some porn stars, there in Van Nuys (the porno making capital of the world)

If I could have walked out of there with anything I wanted, it would have been a 65Amp head/2-12

What was it about this amp that made it stand out? I've never heard of that maker. Is it a rock amp?

Wattage, they had a new Vox halfstack there, but the rep was playing through the AC-30. The combos are $1000 and the head is $850, but can you imagine what those prices will be, once they hit the used market? CHEAP! As for the features, they answered most of the requests of long-time Vox users, so they do it all!

As for the 65 Amps. Most studio players request lower wattage amps that sound like high wattage amps. His design is unbelievable. When cranked, it's as loud as a 65 watt amp with tight low end, but when turned down, it still sounds that good.
I don't know how they did it, but they made a dual EL-84 amp with tight low end like a 100W Marshall and all the chime of a cranked AC-30. Even though it's considered more of a Vox/Plexi type sound, it had a surprising amount of gain.....probably the same as a Mesa Lonestar. All I know is that when people were walking down the hall, the tone that made people's hair stand up on their arms was from the 65Amps booth. People were making a beeline for that room, as well as the Fargen room.

Wow, what an unbelievably cool show!

Joe, seeing as you had some time working out with the zvex stuff, what's your opinion on the super hardon and super 2-in-1?

Joneser's right about the 65s .. you could hear it echoing all through the hallways
that thing was like an optical illusion, or ... aural illusion :)

after listening to it for quite a while, I would've never thought it was a 20 watt amp, in fact, I asked twice again after he said that

I was pretty blown away by that

a truly exceptional amp

The Hardon pedals are truly great Overdrives. I was also impressed with the Menatone Fish Factory. If I were to buy an OD now, it's definitely be a Fish Factory. It's the best from Menatone, IMO.

What I really was blow away by was the Z Vex Tremolo Probe and Fuzz Probe.
Tremolo Probe can be used for volume swells, foot controlled tremolo, and reverse guitar effects. These Probe pedals are basically a theremin attached to an effect. That means that the proximity of your foot to the copper plate controls the intensity.
The Fuzz Probe will make you sell whatever fuzz you own, and come up with the $300 it cost. I'm not buying ANY effect pedals outside of those Probe pedals by Z Vex. They're the greatest thing ever invented in the effect world!!!

So it's a 20 watt-er but called a 65? Are both the head and the combo 20 watts?

Sounds like you're getting the power tube distortion, not just the preamps.

What's the Fargen stuff like?

I think the trend in amps is to take the LOUD classics of yesterday, and make them sound just as good, but in a lower wattage format. In the past, the problem was that the low end wasn't tight enough, or the highend got too shrill. Amp designers nowadays are working to fix that, as evidenced by 65Amps, Fargen, and Siegmund. The Fargens are all different, much like Dr. Z's. He's really into boutique Plexi's, Deluxes, and now a Dumble, Two Rock, Fuch's type amp, the VOS....Velvet OD Special.
My favorite Fargens were the Mighty Plex and the VOS.

Siegmund strikes me as a 'mad scientist' type of amp designer....he's a true original!
He doesn't stop at typical tube types....he uses all kinds of rare tubes, and makes sure his transformers and components are the best out there. I'm not sure I dig the snakeskin look, but I absolutely love the creative cabinetry he uses!
