The longest journey - my impressions on 10 different Duncan's

Re: The longest journey - my impressions on 10 different Duncan's

Thank you so much for your post Anficht. I agree with you TOTALLY about the JB.

Before I tried it, I was expecting it to be very Vanilla but in a good way, sort of neutral since it has been the "go-to" pickup for so many years for so many players.

It is always described as "opening up the guitar's sound" by guys in the early 80s when they were trying them out for the first time. God sure makes you wonder what the hell were they using before that was so bad? LOL. What's weirder still is this is Jake E. Lee and Vito Bratta's go to bridge hummy in the 80s, along with Warren D as well. But for some reason, I like their tones but I don't like mine when I play it. I guess to like it you probably need an old JCM800 to appreciate it. With the amps I have tried, including just through a Line6 with headphones, it's compressed, weird and icepicky to my ears- so I know what you mean. Sounds to me like it would wear your ears out kinda fast.

However, that being said I am still convinced the JB is good in certain guitars. It has to be or else everyone wouldn't have used them. So I think I will try it in other axes and see if it's good. I bet it is. I think mine just didn't like my ebony fingerboard too much.

I still haven't found the right bridge humbucker for me yet- am getting closer and closer though.

Anficht- GREAT playing bro :bigthumb:

I think based on your style and the recorded tones you got, that something like the PAF PRO may be the way to go with DiMarzios.

If you want a bit less "precise" and a bit more "vibe" a Rio Grande BBQ might be your ticket- its def a PAF on Steroids type of tone- more-so than a Custom or Custom 5- but it doesnt really cross over into a "distortion" class design.

Anficht--
I REALLY enjoyed your clips--even though that genre isn't my cup of tea. You remind me of my guitar hero, Roy Buchanan: lots of impressive tricks and showmanship but everything fits with, and adds to, the piece. I've been playing guitar for more than 50 years and I know an artist when I hear one. You're an artist.
