THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

Wait a minute, you're in Cleveland, Ms? I go to school in Cleveland...I may have known this guy...haha

freakin awesome story though man, congrats

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

Yeah I just moved into a new house about a year ago. I may just get the insured the value of the guitars really do not effect me.. Its the reason why i got them.. Stanley (Stumpy) Gaines could have given them to anyone elso.. Its just the fact that they were his and what an extra ordinary figure he was... Never giving up even though he knew his time was coming soon

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

Depending on your house and the condition, they might be worth more than the actual property.

That almost sounds sounds like one of those redneck jokes..... When your guitars are worth more than your home........ well you just might be .....

:D

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

You have to forgive me, but I have a hard time believing something this awesome actually happened. Let's see some convincing pics, both for proof and for the sheer joy of seeing such fantastic instruments.

You know what they say ... if it's too good to be true ...

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

I'm not so skeptical. Stuff like probably doesn't happen often, but I've heard of it happening from time to time. I know an elderly gentlemen here in town that has a 58 LP and a 57 strat that are in great shape and I'll restring them and clean them up for him when he needs it. He's 84 and still plays BTW. I could probably have them if I wanted them, but I don't. His wife is still in her mid 60's and could use the money they are worth after he is gone.

Guitars aside. I think it's more cool that you took time out of your busy life to make dieing old mans life better. Not only w/ music, but w/ companionship. That's worth more than any hunk of wood w/ strings IMO.

Words well spoken. Even when i strummed a simple chord you could see the fire in this guy's eyes as i know he wanted to just pick it up and start strumming. This being one of my patients, I treated him like pamily because he was so cool and calm and recollected, I treated him like family as i do with most of my patients i deal with.

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

Well I live awfully close to him, he could let me come over and play these holy grails of the guitar world for proof, haha :)

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

The coolest part of that is that you kept going over to see him because you wanted to, not ever thinking that somday these would be yours! You're a good man Charlie Brown. Great story and I am sure you really miss him.

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

Just goes to show that nice guys really can win in the end. A little kindness can go a long way. Congratulations on the guitars, treat the as well as you treated the old man.

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

I am thinking of getting some custom cases for my wall and displaying them and having a picture of me and stump framed under all three of them..

that would be a great thing to do. make sure you keep playing them though! Take some pics of the display if you do make it!

Re: THe luckiest guy on earth right now!!!!

That's one truely amazing story right there!

I'd love to see some photos of these gems... just to drool and dream over :D

And of course, may your old friend rest in peace.

34 posts made in less than 24 hours with a previous post of him saying that he "will go buy a digital camera in teh next few days and snap a few shots of them..".
It's ok not to believe everything you hear but being cynical is another thing entirely...

BTW, that was a great story and from the way you talk it seems that these guitars are worth more to you for what they are (mementos of a great man and the time you spent with him) than their monetary value which is why I think he wanted you to have them.

Play them in good health man in his memory.

Cheers

And being gullible is yet another........if its true, good for him, and good for stumpy. I just don't believe it. Nothing wrong with being cynical, especially within the context of the internet. You can believe it if you like, I don't.
