The morning after . . .

This is the 3rd or 4th time this has happened to me, and I wonder if it happens to you. I install new pups, and they're "magic". Two days later . . . not so much. This is in reference to my new JD/AII Pro Tele pups. Don't get me wrong, they still sound great. I love 'em. But they don't have the "magic" they had the first day.

Seems to me I should have outgrown this phenomenon years ago. :D
There must be some scientific/psychologic explanation for it.

It's pretty normal for me. Not just pickups, but anything. I'm glad SD's return policy is 21 days.

No, no . . . don't get me wrong. I still love them. But the first day, it was like . . . "Oh my God . . . these are the best things I've ever heard". My new "standard".

Then, a couple days later . . . they sound good, but . . . my C5/DD combo is good too. ;)

(I wasn't drunk . . . I don't do drugs.) :D

You know what I mean?

For me, its usually that my ears prefer A5 pickups. I try out A2 pickups and like the warmth at first, but then I start to miss that 'open' character of A5s, and go right back.

I know exactly what you mean, but I still prefer A5 actives, with a ceramic in the neck ;).

I just call it the honeymoon period and don't judge things too much until it's over.
