The most expensive production pickups.

Just as a curiosity, what's the most expensive single production pickup that you've seen or know of? I'm not talking about pickups from vintage LPs or Strats and the like, just an obscenely expensive production model.

I hear the Tom Holmes pickups are pretty ridiculous in the pricing dept.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

i dont think those silly prices are from him, i think they are ebay prices

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

IMO, the pearly gates is most expensive production duncan. They're like what $90+ new? $40 more gets you a antiquity which is pretty much a custom shop p'up.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

The TH might be the most expensive ones I know of...I only know of one place to buy new Holmes pickups in the states and they are $800 a set.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

arent WCRs pretty up there? - pretty sure they can go for over $300 a set new

and kinmans?

and not sure what the current status of bardens are ... for a while they were getting CRAZY money

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

i've seen a set of Joe Bardens go for $500 plus through a dealer, but highest average price for any company i believe is Bare Knuckle... i dont think they may a set under $300

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

Taku Sakashta's (spelling?) work isn't cheap I'm sure.

I'll dig up some prices.

BTW, Sakashta, BareKnuckle, Fralin, Lollar, etc aren't production though. I just said Takashta because somebody mentioned Holmes and Bareknuckle so I just went with it.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

Ref Bareknuckle pick ups, they are hand built so equivalent to custom shop pick ups. If you order direct you can specify pretty much anything you want including how "aged" you want your covers if that's your thing.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

Don't forget, Bare Knuckles are listed in pounds, so they're even more expensive than they seem to us American folk.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

My guitar teacher has a set of handwired joe bardens by joe barden.

I wonder how much those would be worth.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

That's just plain crazy.
:eyecrazy:
I agree, I was going to have a custom set made with Seymour Duncan, the one I made at the SDUGD, and they were going to charge me $120. which is still reasonable.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

Production gets to be a slippery slope.
Wagner, wolfetone, lollar etc aren't exactly production like most duncans are.
At a certain point the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

My favorites are SD and WCR.

But I could probably do everything I ever needed with the grand ol' Duncan 59s

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

Here in europeland we pay around 90-140€ per standard pickup. That's roughly $120-200 so Bare Knuckles aren't any more expesive than regular duncans or dimarzios!

If you're being charged 90 euro's for SD's ya being done :)
Obviously we get charged more for american made stuff than those of you in the colonies but you can get new SD's in the UK from £60 and then up. Bareknuckles, which are made in the uk, start at £90, possibly a little less from some where like hotrox

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

I forgot about Bardens. Yeah, there mucho $$ but boy howdy do they sound crazy good.

Re: The most expensive production pickups.

Hmm are Lungren considered production?
They make some of the most expensive 7 and 8 string pickups out there
