The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

We still don't know how old the brother is do we?

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

I can certainly understand the old man being pissed. I have a strict no-touch policy with my guitars, even with my "friends". I've had several incidents at gigs where guys wanted to play my guitar and I always say no. Then the guy will usually start pleading his case, and I tell him that the reason I don't let people play my guitars is so I don't have to go to prison....for killing him when he puts a ding in it.

One guy pestered me all night long one time, and finally I told the drunk I'd let him play my guitar if I could sleep with his wife. Well, she was standing right there--beautiful woman--and he thought about it too long. LOL! She dragged him out of there by his hair! I apologized to her next time I saw her for my comment, but she wasn't offended at all by me--but she had some choice words for her husband. And he later apologized to me and never asked again.

I figure the '78 Les Paul is devalued by about $2,000 by the cracked headstock. And Junior should pay every dime of that back; and hopefully he'll learn his lesson.

And Dad should start keeping his guitars in their cases, and lock them. Yeah, someone can steal your guitar, case and all, so what good is a case key? The answer is, they are for toddlers who don't know better, and teenagers who disrespect boundaries.

And when the case key doesn't deter this behavior anymore, it's time for the Glock!

Have the guitar restored/repaired right to pre-break conditions and make Junior pay for it. It won't be cheap, but that's the idea.

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Your dad should file a lawsuit for negligence or something else, against your bro! Guitars come first, family second!

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

Boogie Bill, it's certainly devalued, but by $2,000? The whole guitar probably isn't reliably worth a whole lot more than that.

Andrew - The 62 in not a fake the old man had got it from a guy in Vegas back in the 80's. Then he had it authenticated sometime in the early 90's. Even though its an SG back then it was and still is a Paul.

Now back to my brother he is 20 just turned. He has stayed at my older sisters for about 3 days now and my mom went over there to get him to come home. My mom asked me to find a replacement (note i dont like pauls at all) and she will pay for it. I have a line on one but the seller is a real prick and wants to send it via ups i want to drive across state and pick it up.

Anyway my mom said the other day the old man just sat in his guitar room and stared at his guitars HA HA man is he pissed....

Why not make HIM find one and make HIM pay for it?

well i guess that he is going to have to pay my mom back but im doing it for my mom not so much for the dumb ass.

Yes, it's an SG/LP. When Gibson showed Les the revamped guitar he didn't like it and asked them to take his name off of it, but they already had tons of "Les Paul" plates made for the guitar, so they kept installing them on the SGs until 1963.

On Standards the "Les Paul" is on the truss rod cover and on the Customs you'll also find it on that little piece of plastic between the end of the fingerboard and the neck pickup.

Here's some pics:

At least that's what I think the OP is referring to...not a Les Paul, but a Les Paul/SG. If it's a straight out Les Paul as in, single cutaway maple/mahog, etc then I have no idea.

I'm glad I don't own any really expensive guitars if this is the kinda crap they cause.

Looks like I'm the only one that thinks all this is a bit excessive. I'd be pissed off too, but, it's the guy's SON that broke it, and he's so scared of his dad he's stayed away from home for 3 days?! And the dad is so enraged about it he's just sitting in the room staring at the guitars?

It does seem a little much doesn't it. One of my guitars has a dent in it from the hoovering activities of my Bangladeshi houseboy, should I go to town on him too? I choose to leave them where he can get near them - my fault, or his if they get damaged?

Re: The old man almost crapped himself yesterday!!!

I know about the history of the SG/LP thing... I just got confused by the way the OP worded it..

NP andrew the cool thing about that guitar is the old man went looking for one guitar and saw this one in the guy in Las Vegas collection and talked him out of it for a steal.

Nope your not. The whole you got 30 days or im gonna break your guitar stuff is way over the top.

I can see making the kid pay for it but lets not be stupid here. Somethings wrong when your kid is hiding from you like that.

Some of the responses in the thread are just as scary in the end its just a norlin era les paul.

I would be embarrassed - and hurt - if my kid was so afraid of me they hid in someone's house for days and had to be coaxed back home.
Yeah, make the kid pay for some of it (although demanding 2K from your 20 year old son? FFS. If the dad can afford all these guitars, he can take a hit here) but in future put the guitars in their cases or put a lock on the door.

Yeah, that was a serious comment. It's not something I make too much of, but it's part of the package that goes with my grade and living and working in Saudi. He basically does domestic work for us, cleaning, ironing and so on. I think he's been with us for the last 5 years now.
