The Owl Is Curious About The Roland VG-8

Anyone on here ever used or employed a Roland VG-8 in any capacity, I have to admit my curiosity is piqued, any comments, raves or curses are welcome.

Re: The Owl Is Curious About The Roland VG-8

I own the VG88, which is the updated version of the VG8.
The difference between the two, in my experience, is that the VG8 had an expansion card that had all sorts of famous guitar player's models on there.
A friend of mine has the VG8, and it's great.

I think the VG88 is the best amp modeler available, period.

You can use your guitar's pups and just use the unit as a modeler, or if you have a synth pickup, you can do virtually ANYTHING, including alternate tunings without having to retune your guitar, play 12 string and acoustic guitar patches, etc.

TwilightOdyssey, Whilst were on the topic of Roland GK systems, what do you think of the GR-30??

Just picked up a brand new GK-KIT for US$12.50 at a liquidation sale - at that price, I simply couldn't pass :D

Re: The Owl Is Curious About The Roland VG-8

Well, I have the GR-30, and Mincer has the GR-33, I believe.
I LOVE IT!
It's not for guitar sounds, of course, but for doing synth parts, which is what I use it for -- analog synths, bass pedal synths, strings, horns, pads, etc, it's amazing!!!

Re: The Owl Is Curious About The Roland VG-8

Actually, I have a GI-10, midi'd to a Roland XV-5050, which is awesome. If you want a lot of verasility, get the GI-20 , and a separate synth. The GI-20 also has a USB out to midi it to softsynths as well. If you want something easy and sounds good, check out the GR-33, or the cheaper GR-20.

Re: The Owl Is Curious About The Roland VG-8

Well, the GR-20 is a serious misstep imo, Mincer.
I bet it will be gone in a year.
It's cheaply made and makes little sense. If you can afford a synth, I say go whole hog and get a GR-33 or do what you're doing.

BTW ... are your CD's available for sale? If so, how much? :D

Re: The Owl Is Curious About The Roland VG-8

actually i never tried the GR-20, i just thought it was an inexpensive way to get into guitar synth...thanks for the tip, and saving me some time...yeah my CDs are available on my web page right here.
