Re: The poll to end all polls!

I play mostly fender amps, and I've owned a lot of Mesa amps (just got back into that).

So yeah, I guess I gotta vote american... but it's still an apples and oranges type of thing.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

I've got a Mark V, but I'm thinking about putting a set of EL34 into it...

Re: The poll to end all polls!

What if I like Voxes and pre Blackface Fenders the most? I guess I'll vote british because overall I prefer Voxes, Marshalls, HiWatts and Orange over the sound mesa is typically known for.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

Heh. I Still stand by my vote and comment. Marshall is where its at for me if I HAD to choose one or the other for the rest of my life.

But thankfully I do no thave to choose. There is a ton of great amps out there that I would love to own.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

I've always loved the classic Marshall tone with EL34's, best, but there is something to say about the tone of a pre-CBS Vibrolux cranked or clean

Re: The poll to end all polls!

A Fender amp with a proper quality distortion pedal that suits your taste is the most versatile set up anyone could ask for and you get the best of both worlds. With just the Marshall you're compromising. But if it was JUST one, not pedals or effects, I'd take the Marshall I suppose. But nothing is stopping me from going out and getting a pedal so i voted Fender.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

I currently used a fender solid state with the most beautiful cleans. The distortion is a little weak for me, so I use a pedal to kick that distortion into a beautiful crunchy metal tone. So I vote fender, for now...

Re: The poll to end all polls!

i didnt really think out my decision before voting....

for vintage power tube overdrive, it's all about the britz.

for modern preamp distortion and crystal clear clean tone, 'MER'CA

Re: The poll to end all polls!

I voted Marshall. I own a Mesa Stiletto with EL34's, so go figure. BUTT, ya can't beat Fender cleans and I have a few of those. Loved the HiWatt I had many years back,Custom 100. I do like some of the other Mesa's as well.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

No one can match that British roar that the orange/marshalls/blackstars have, and I like the really nice sounding chime the Vox amps have when clean, perhaps even more so than the fender cleans(Heresy!). I'm yet to try a German amp, so I can't comment on the tone. British for me.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

Marshalls. I grew up listening to Kiss and Megadeth. Fender makes nice guitars but their amps are a bit too smooth for my tastes, especially when used with single coil equipped guitars.

Re: The poll to end all polls!

Of the two, Fender. I love a good Marshall tone, but I find Fender amps to be far more versatile and sweet sounding (in general). My favorite guitar amps are Ampegs, however.
