Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

What about Gilmour??

He had a set of Duncan singles...

I was thinking of guys who use Duncans primarily. For example, Ed Van Halen has a Duncan or two in his guitars as well, but Slash equips most of his guitars with Duncans and his main studio guitar is Duncan loaded.

Gilmour is mostly an EMG guy for live, and uses stock vintage pickups a lot.

In the same manner, I wouldn't consider SRV to primarily be an EMG user due to his having a set in the Hamiltone guitar...

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

Now I feel kinda dumb. I put someone on my list that I shouldn't have put, and left somebody pretty important out. A top 10, actually.

Anyone else kinda screwed up a bit on their list too?

I thought long and hard about mine, had a fairly good idea that Leo Nocentelli and Chris Whitley weren't going to appear in the rankings. I thought Freddie King might, as I was expecting more blues players in general.

I could easily have put Hendrix and SRV in place of two of those, as both hugely influential to me, but in the end I went with guys that I like the most.

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

How would you have changed your list?

For some idiotic reason I left Steve Morse slip in. He's cool, but nowhere near my favorites to be honest.

I'd bump James Hetfield to #3 from #5 and put David Gilmour in #5.

And forgot to say, thanks for some awesome work man! :)

That change would've moved Hetfield from #34 to #30, and it would've put Gilmour just one point away from moving into the #3 slot!

Thanks for the kind words. Like I said before, I had a blast doing it. :)

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

Hey Guys,

I had to make a slight adjustment, because I realized I missed seven vote counts that were in my PM inbox. I've included those counts and updated the list accordingly. The first thirteen guitarists in the list remain unchanged; after that, there is some slight shifting among the ranks -- nothing dramatic. In addition, there is one guitarist on the updated Top 75 who wasn't there before: Nuno Bettencourt. Nobody has dropped off the list.

Thought you'd like to know!

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

Excellent list, some of my picks are on there. I'd like to have seen Martin Lancelot Barre and the terror twins (Steve Clark/Phil Collen) but it's still a fantastic list.
Apart from Clapton and Beck. Obviously.

Martin Barre came in a four-way tie for #95, and the Terror Twins came in a 39-way tie (seriously) for #252, which is last place.

Thirty-nine guitarists received only one fifth-place vote.

Oh well at least 4 of my 5 are on there, I didn't expect Mike McCready to be there but he is still one guitarist that I just love to hear play!

All five of yours made it, man. Mike McCready is #56.

Well Keith - up next you should do "the most disliked guitarists" poll... wonder what would be the results.

Re: The REAL List: SDUGF's Favorite Guitarists

BTW, the Mrs. and I saw GW last fall here in Fort Worth. I was less than 10 feet from the stage on Mark's side. Met the band afterwards and got autographs on an old drum head. :)

Someone tell Erik I'm not talking to him anymore.

:laugh2:
