The SD Powerstage 200 !!!! .

Do these have soft tapers on the volume pots at low levels? Most amps of that magnitude are instantly ball-crushing loud, so much so that it is hard to get it at guitar-only practice levels when desired.

Do you mean audio taper pots so they are controllable at low levels? Never hear "soft" taper before. I would assume this type of amp would, it would really limit it's usefulness not to. I think amp designers have gotten better at this, even the JCM900s were much more controllable than the previous 800s. I remember getting my first 900 and thinking it wasn't as loud as my 800, but it just needed to be turned up more.

Yes I just meant that most 200w amps go from 0 to 60mph in a blink. You practically have to blow on the volume to not go straight to 60. That's what I meant by "soft".

Yeah! The whole Power Stage line should be more popular than it is.

If it isn't popular now ( the Power Stage Series ), it will be in the future.
Some amps, guitars and effects aren't very popular when they are first released.

Just like the Crate Power Block was over looked when they first came out .

Funny lots of people are barely realizing how great Carvin amps were ( are ), they used to get slagged by Marshall and Mesa Boogie owners.

Time always tells !!!!

I still have mine for the exact reason the PS was built for. Most people with PBs know how useful and good they are.

I was going to get one of those, but I ended up getting a Mooer 20W tube poweramp because a. it's tube, b. I figured I could use less watts since I'm probably going to be using it 99% at home. I bet the Duncan would've sounded better at low volumes too. :/

I think the additional EQ really increases the value here.
I may have to get it for the EQ shaping alone as it would remove another possible point of failure in having an external EQ to dial it into the venue properly. Unfortunately, as powerful as the Powerblock is, the way I run it bypassing the pre, it has no real time EQ controls whatsoever so it requires at least a 2 band external (presence and resonance to emulate a more typical guitar power amp) or I’m kind of stuck with whatever my processor’s EQ is set to and go into the menus to change the patches if it’s not right.

There’s another PowerBlock user on the forum who runs VHT tube buffers into the front end of the Powerblock. I have no idea how he sets his because I tried running the master wide open, the gain as the volume to be able to use the 3 band for a global EQ but it just sounds weird (even if I bypass the global cab sim) and washes out live compared to an external EQ straight into the power amp. I do like the idea that the PowerStage isn’t exactly a completely flat an neutral power amp but not exactly like a clean channel either. You would think it may go horribly wrong if it’s not at least the former but there’s no arguing how well it’s being received.

High and low mids at the turn of a knob just solves virtually any problem you could have live. Not cutting through? Low mids. Too ice-picky? High mids! The Bad Monkey video that went viral was trying to make a similar point. A device with more tone-shaping controls will intrinsically be more powerful. What about the higher wattage PowerStages? Will there be a MkII or some other variants of the other PowerStages with the five-band EQ some day?

As far as what will be available in the future, I have no idea. I found out about the new Powerstage 100 by browsing Sweetwater's site,
