That is one pretty Gibson. In pretty pictures, being rocked on stage where it belongs.

The Hamer doesn't present itself in equal glamor. And that mini toggle does poke me in the eye. But I cannot say 'no' to an old gem, see my nickname?

Toggle was placed between the knobs to avoid injury perhaps by the original owner.

Whackhead is sadly, or not, in the hands of a livingroom rawker now but is a retired Chicago area bar scene veteran. Hence the name. It lost it's headstock against a rack of Par 64s in 1982. After repair it was then made a stay at home guitar. Original owner told me his case went with another guitar to "pay some guys a debt." Glamour guitar it is not, sweet lil rawker it is.

Well, I am a huge Hamer fan, and have owned a gorgeous USA version and a very nice import version of the Standard myself. But I voted the R9.

Whenever these polls come up, I think about which guitar I would still be happy with 10, 15, 20 years down the road. I am not a fan of massive flame, but I like the R9s flame, and I like it better than the Hamers top. Also prefer the color of the R9. Frets, neck shape, weight, balance on the strap (a major issue I had with both Standards) etc., all would be in the R9s favor for me. The Hamer has the cool rarity factor, but for me, that is its only trump on the R9..well...and upper fret access.

That might be one of the best looking R9s I have seen...

However, I had to go old school and vote for the Hamer.

I voted the Hamer no hands down, The R9 is pretty but it does not look very much like a '59, way too flamey, more like a 90s Classic +. That Hamer is the real deal

Just to clarify, I have seen a few '59s that flamey but they are few and far between. I like the more subtle flamed ones with the mineral streaks showing
