I haven't been playing live at all recently, but still felt the need to update my 'big board'. It was designed when I was playing in a 3-piece covers band, to maximise the noises we were creating.

Signal Chain: Korg Pitchblack Tuner -> Fender ABY -> B Output -> Boss SY-1 -> SD Vapor Trail -> 2 to 1 Box under the board
-> A Output -> SD Polaron Phaser -> Dr Green Booster Shot -> SD 805 -> Fulltone Full Drive 3 -> TC Electronic Mimic Mini ->2 to 1 box under the board
2 to 1 -> Boss Dimension C -> Positive Grid Bias Delay Twin -. Neunaber Immerse Mk 2 Reverb -> Marshall JTM 45 Reissue

I use the SY-1 mostly for synth pads under chords to fill out the sound on some songs, with the occasional 'keyboard/synth' lead lines, either on their own or in unison with the guitar.

The Mimic thickens up the sound so it all sounds a bit bigger and fills out the space.

I've still got some playing to do, to tweak settings, and to really get to know the delay and reverb, which are the newest additions.

I need to watch some videos of the SY-1 pedal to get a sense of what it does. I've used regular Roland guitar synths for years, but it really requires a lot of equipment and special guitars with hex pickups. I'd love to ditch that to have pads behind chords.

It has plenty of sounds in it, although control over them can be a little restricted, but for what I needed it was perfect. I don't utilise an expression pedal, which would open up some nice options. I mostly use a soft pad option, with the occasional blast of an organ sound for some lead tones.

I did have some rehearsal videos from a few years back, where I add the pad sound to a cover of Purple Rain and the organ sound as a joint lead in Quo's Anniversary Waltz for Red River Rocks. The audio isn't fab in those recordings so the synth sounds don't pop in quite the same way they did in the room.

Here's the Purple Rain clip. The synth gets switched on in the second verse and stays on until the end. I also had a spare supply off the board to power a TC Helicon vocal harmoniser, which I used in the 3 rd chorus.
