Re: The Single Most Overrated Guitar of All Time

Oh I'm sure I'd love it. This thread has convinced me that I will own one one day.

Re: The Single Most Overrated Guitar of All Time

Most overrated guitar ever? I honestly don't see a whole lot of people actually owning them. I don't know why you think "people" love them so much. Sure, you hear enough people singing their praises, but I don't see a whole lot of people actually owning them. If people really did think they were great, I'd expect to see more of them out there. And don't point to their price as an excuse. You can find used ones at a decent price and there are certainly Epi's out there for people that don't want to drop the coin on a Gibson.

As for them being made out of laminate? Who cares? It is pretty evident that you are just trying to get a rise out of people, but if you're going to start threads for no other reason than to be provocative, you can be a little more creative than that. I'm glad that they are made of laminate. Why? Because my ES-335 is the best sounding guitar I own. I don't want it to sound any different. I'm sure that you can make a wonderful semi-hollow out of a carved piece of mahogany or maple, but good luck finding a one-piece back that big. I'm sure, with your discerning tastes, that a two-piece back would just be unacceptable. After all, multiple pieces of wood glued together is getting dangerously close to plywood.
Going a little of topic here. But yes I love my Ibby why because it plays well and sounds great. It may not be a high ens guitar and not be made from one piece or two pieces of Mahogany. But I dont care why cause its got decent hardware plays and sounds good to me. I am not even a Ibanez fan. I am not a Gibson Fan either. I just like a 355. I may mostly get a Epiphone DOT.

Re: The Single Most Overrated Guitar of All Time

If you're referring to me (which you probably aren't) I've been having a really horrible week and I'm deliberately taking statements like the original post personally, because I came here to unwind and get my mind off the bad week only to be told I'm a "dork" who wants a 335.

No, I wasn't referring to you. I am sorry to hear that you have had a rough week, and can empathize with trying to get away from what made the week bad. I am sincere when I mean well to people, but I never truly mean any offense or harm in anyway to anyone. I really do hope things can work out and that the weeks to come will be better. To be honest, my past months haven't been highlights either.

MY posts!??.. aren't you the guy who wants a Gibson Les Paul to be a semi Hollow??;

No, I'm the guy who wants the exact opposite. Since I can't find what I want, I make what I want. Hence why I am making a solid oak telecaster with a non-recessed schaller floyd rose, one humbucker pickup that can run in series/parallel, and a maple/maple neck. ;)

Whatever, thats what you said; that you like chambered Les pauls cause they are closer to Semi Hollow.. anyway,. Oak is a terrible tonewood. Why are you using Oak??They make some basses out of it, other than that I dont know of anyone in their right mind that makes an Electric guitar from Oak.

Ok, now you're plain out talking out of your ass.

1. Have you tried a guitar out of oak? No.
2. Have you had the balls to make something yourself? No, you just critique.
3. Roughly 5% of the "tone" is from body wood. The neck, pickups, bridge, and AMP AND EQ, cables/strings etc. make up the other 95%.
4. BRIAN MAY made his guitar (semi-hollow btw) out of OAK. Also, the neck and fingerboard on his original Red Special is even oak, and the front/back/sides of the body are thin sheets of mahogany. "(Who) in their right mind - makes an electric guitar from oak"? Let me see your PhD in astrophysics, he built his guitar using all of his father's wood working skills and his incredible knowledge in physics. Result - Amazing tone.

Friend- YOU ain't Brian May..Anyhow..
I'm cooking a brisket with oak. This weekend. If you want, I'll throw your guitar in the fire , and give you 5% of it.

Oh well, I'll leave it for the day crew to rip me apart on this thread like a a pack of hungry Hyenas.

If I'm not Brian May, then what the fuck are you? Also, I have quite a similar bright future, being in Honors English throughout high school, AP Psychology, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, going up to Pre-Calculus, and Advanced music theory, along with three years of wood shop. With a plan of going to college to get a Master in Psychology, and at minimum a Bachelor's Degree in astrophysics. I think I have quite potential to at least be remotely comparable to Brian May, not saying it is a competition to begin with.

You lost the moment you tried one-upmanship against him.

While iam continually amazed at the tolerance twords his posts this is the wrong way to go about combating them.

btw friendly piece of advice might want to edit some of the language in your posts.

Any maple cap on a mahogony body
A flamed veneer on a body

It all technically makes them plywood

Jer is just trolling. Plain and simple.

The thing is: I know it. Oh, do I know it. Hell, most of the time, I think it's funny. I'll even say that sometimes, there's a grain of knowledge hiding in there that doesn't get tossed out with the empties. Yet, it still gets under my skin, from time to time. I'm starting to wonder if I'm one of those people that just sits around, waiting to be offended. I hope not.

Oh god.

Fair warning to all: we just pulled into Dubai a couple days ago. Yesterday: duty. Today: no duty, nowhere to go, just the internet cafe on the pier and beer. I'm probably going to be on later, belligerent enough to make Jer look like Ghandi.

Mods: this isn't premeditation. I just don't know if I can stop it. I feel Mr. Hyde in there, ricocheting off the insides of my skull, waiting to get out...
