Can someone tell me what the point is of Fender putting that little dimple on their Stratocaster Bodies? Does it affect the tone in some way?

Re: The Stratocaster "Dimple"

I remember reading something about the machine that cuts the Strat bodies uses it is a 'guide' when cutting the pickup holes etc.

Re: The Stratocaster "Dimple"

It must be a recent development. I was not aware that it was there.

Re: The Stratocaster "Dimple"

i dont think my strat has that, dont remmeber seeing it the last tim ei had the picguard off

Re: The Stratocaster "Dimple"

Whatever it's for, they didn't start putting it in until fairly recently. I've never seen one on a pre-2000 body.

Re: The Stratocaster "Dimple"

I think Robbiedbee's answer was right. The CNC carving machine uses that as a way to hold the wood still, as a reference point for routing everything.

Why wouldn't you just hide weed in the trem cover on the back (I cant cause mines off), but thats 6 screws instead of 11 and you dont have to line things up when you put it back on.

DUH

Re: The Stratocaster "Dimple"

it's odd as some of my MIM have 3 holes like that.... but ya it is a guide for CNC machines....

God i'd be dangerous if i had some bucks and a shop with a CNC machine for guitar making... then i'd have to buy all the other machines to that go into making a guitar..... :) nice dream but i ain't rich!
