the super rad pedal board in progress

super rad stuff

Skaforlifeologist
well, i finally got around to getting some velcro. 2" heavy duty strips, fits well across the board, and perfectly to the back of pedals. i used an old shelf from my one of my bookshelfs, since i don't have any books to put on it anyways. the board altogether is coming together much more neatly than i thought it would.

the two metal panels i've got in the last picture are for when i get around to getting a real power supply. those will be screwed onto the back of the board to isolate them a bit. i got'em for free from GC since they had a new manager that week, and wanted some stuff thrown away. i asked for them, and they said i could have them. i'll lilkely just end up using the larger panel for a power brick of some sort, and stick the brick on with zip ties.

currently, everything is hooked up with a 1-spot daisy chain power connector, boss 9v adapter, and random budget-level livewire connectors and an ernie ball male/male connector. aside from my two main cables(mogami gold straight-plugs, 10ft/18ft), it's nothing fancy, but for now it gets the job done.

as for the pedals on there.... i know i've got three distortions. i might be looking to get rid of one, who knows. i've also got an MXR carbon copy on layaway right now, so that's gonna go on there as the last thing before the amp. i've got a wah that i picked up from lucid, but it won't work anymore so i've got to figure out how to fix it before it goes on here. the only other pedal i would need is a good compressor; not one for sustain, but for limiting really since i'm not too keen on gain boost just to get a good crunch out of my pedals, i like a leveled-out level the best:D

anyways, this is a board in progress, currently made at the lowest level of budget possible. i'll keep y'all posted on it's progress:D

Actually you need another DS1...:naughty:

lol. i was actually thinking of picking up another one at one point, because i like having one on low for clean-with-hair, and the other one for a high gain sound. i tried two together at GC, and stacking them like that yielded a not-so-ds1 tone with both on. it wasn't bad sounding, just not what i was after. it was really boomy and in your face, maybe even a little fuzz-ish.

Re: the super rad pedal board in progress

In my wildest dreams I wouldn't think of having two DS-1. This pedal has more fans than I thought.

well, the one on the right is just a plain ol', stock ds-1. it's my first pedal ever, and has always been there for when i need a good, predictable dirt channel:) the ds-1 on the left is one i picked up off of trevorus. he modded it, though i don't completely recall how/what. it's a monty allums mod IIRC. either way, that pedal is totally different. it's much darker and bassier, has a more useable tone sweep, more gain boost, and is smoother-but-crunchier than the stock ds-1, which is grainier(in a good way:)). plus, it lights up whenever it's got a signal coming through anytime i hit the strings, so that's kinda cool too:D

Re: the super rad pedal board in progress

I have 3 distortion pedals a boost and a OD , so all I can say is your getting there :fing2:
plus my amp has 2 channels of brutal gain. I dont stack much of it except for the boost pedal and sometime the bad monkey into a dirt box or my crunch channel.

I just like having a wide variety of crunch and gain voices on hand at the step of a button. The velcro strip is the same method I will be using on my board when I get it going, until then its just a tangle of pedals on the floor for me.

i like variety too, but when it comes down to it i really only like having one solid clean channel, and one solid dirt channel. what's funny is that despite all these different dirt boxes i've gone through i still keep coming back to the stock ds-1!

i know what you mean by the "tangle of pedals," i've seen rid's pedal floor;) i really like having the velcro like this, it fits the pedals just right. also, the size of the bookshelf actually gives me alot of room to grow into, especially since it's long enough for two rows of pedals.

edit: i keep forgetting to mention, but i also need to pick up some handles for it, much in the same fashion that a forum bro put on the sides of his board. i think it was ex-250.

what only comments on the dirt boxes and none on my handywork?:lame:;)

lacking a big muff :)

just sayin'

i personally dont think its a great idea to go with velcro, even if the stories of the adhesive sides melting in cars doesnt apply to your area. zip ties will make you happier in the long run, i think. i cant stand tearing velcroed things apart. ugh

anyway looks like youre well on your way to getting a board done! wish i waited to do mine until pedal board threads were "in" :(

big muff? bah:28:.....
:joke:it'd probably be too dark for my liking though.

as far as the velcro goes... well, it's on a shelf i'll never use for it's practical purposes again, and having it on the back of my pedals doesn't bother me any:) besides, it's easier to rearrange stuff;)

don't worry about how you did yours man, it's actually pretty cool. i actually considered buying one of your extra shelfs at one point, it seemed practical. just didn't have the scratch at the time.

Cool! I like it. It is similar to what I did with my smaller board.

I am more into fuzz based sounds though. I "hid" the power supplies under the upper level.

you'd be surprised! it CAN get on the dark side but it doesnt really have the low end to get too muddy unless youre turning up the sustaine knob too high. Its super versatile with the tone knob too. sometimes it sounds like i'm just using a mega bad ass OD instead of a fuzz

Re: the super rad pedal board in progress

drpietrzak, i've seen a pic of your board before, but not the one of the underside showing the power supply. it's very cool, and i was also thinking of doing something like that, but don't have enough time/patience to put together a board like that.

:scratchch sounds cool. maybe i'll have to search out a little one, the big and medium ones are too big!

Re: the super rad pedal board in progress

I'd put something underneath to raise the front of the board or make a shelf for the second row. It will make it a lot easier to reach the pedals on that row, and it gives you a spot under the board/under the second row of pedals to hide the power supply.

Re: the super rad pedal board in progress

yeah, some slant side panels and a straight front would give a nice tilt, not that hard to do...have fun! More fuzz!
