The trouble with Eminence speakers is...

As far as I can tell, there is no marking on either the speaker itself or the packaging to say what the Ohm rating of the speaker is. While this isn't too much of a problem for me as I only have 1 Eminence speaker so it shouldn't be that hard to remember, if I had lots of different speakers of multiple types and ohms, I'd have to keep lists of them all.

Obviously it's easy enough to write something on the back of the speaker, but really I shouldn't have to as this kind of thing really ought to be clearly marked by the manufacturer, especially as using the wrong impedance could damage an expensive amp.

I know I could write the value on the speaker, or test it with a multimeter (actually I should probably test it anyway just in case the dealer sent me one with the wrong value.) But that's not really the point. A speaker is a component of an electrical circuit which can carry high voltages and be potentially dangerous and therefore the relevant values ought to be marked on it. Imagine if pots, resistors, caps etc were all unmarked and you had to write their values on yourself or test them with a multimeter every time you wanted to use one. Or imagine if there was an 18v battery that was exactly the same size as a 9v battery and the manufacturer did not mark which one was which.

If you look at the magnet it has a rubber ring on it take this off and underneath it there should be a sticker with the model name, power handling and impedance on it.

I like Eminence speakers quite a bit . . . but this is a valid complaint. They should stick a mark on the back label. Give them a call and ask about it.

Ah, thanks, I didn't know this. I remember there being a rubber ring, but I haven't looked underneath it - I will do next time I get that speaker out.

Do you happen to know what the function of the rubber ring? I haven't I don't think any of my other speakers have this.

I think it's just to reduce the risk of the magnet getting chipped or something? I don't know that was just a random guess. It does look nicer though.


Actually i do know i once cut my finger on the edge of a magnet on a v30 and it was really deep i had to go to A&E to get stitches.
