No, I originally only went to the careers office for info, and to stop my Dad from nagging me. I had basically wasted 2 years doing A-levels that I never completed, and was working in a sports shop. The careers office persuaded me to take their aptitude tests, and offered me any ground trade I wished to choose. I chose the one with the best pay and best prospects when I left. I don't have a family history in the RAF, although I did find out some years later that my Dad wanted to join and my Grandad wouldn't allow it.

No famous reletives that I know of.

And Keith, I'm not avoiding your question, merely contemplating and forming my answer!! :D

I like to be online, and be one of the faceless masses surfing and not achieving a great deal. I also like to read, and sometimes mindlessly channel hop on the tv.:)

The most significant wisdom is a hard one. My RAF instructors always ensured that we were very aware of the high voltages in some of the equipment I work with. So being told not to touch the 50000 volts is a good one!

Also, listen to those who are older and have been through stuff. There's normally a good reason for their wisdom...

Never tried sushi, not something I've ever thought about trying to be honest. Gyros? I presume you mean kebabs!!!!

I tried to live exclusively off them in Cyprus!!

I would move Queen from d1 to take bishop at g4, to set a more agressive posture. I would then call for a high "velocity" air-strike from a formation of Typhoons to cause maximum "mayhem". I would then move one of my pawns forward under the cover of the air-strike, and use the old Jedi mind trick to force the Dark King to "acquiese" to my demands!

I am, BTW, the world's worst chess player!! :D

Good call on the move and word usage, Steve! I misread your response the first time, and lashed out at your horrific attach choice, but I forgot that I set you on the white side, not the black!

You have my sympathy! Those days are thankfully behind me now. The 4th time through wasn't any easier than the first! And it doesn't get any easier with age!!

Here's another for you:

If you could live the life of any fictional character from literature, classic or modern, which character would you choose? Do you choose this character because he or she is someone you can identify with? Is it because this character has a quality you admire? Does it have to do with the character's way of life, family or friends? Is it perhaps because of something that ultimately has nothing to do with the character, such as their surroundings or the particular time in history?

If you can, quote a passage from the book that gives us a glimpse into your response.

Feels like you're back in school, doesn't it? :)

I'm not really sure that I can identify with one character, but I certainly admire those self-confident types that can deal with any situation. Joe and Jolly will like this, maybe James Bond!!!

I don't think I'd want to live the lifestyle necessarily, but his personality and strength of character appeal to me. Fleming paints quite a different picture to the almost comic book Bond in the films. I like Daniel Craig's Bond. Very calm and confident on the outside, while all the time being very aware of his surroundings.

I'll try and come up with a suitable passage later.

What advice would you give to the younger members of the forum, on the subject of gigging? and.....

Are you more of a note for note player or are you more into improvisation?

Remember to have fun, it is supposed to be enjoyable after all. Don't dwell on every little mistake, most of the time the audience doesn't notice. Make an effort to get on with bandmates away from the band, you've got to like each other to really make a band work.

I am mostly an improv type of bloke. I sometimes play snippets of recognisable riffs and solos, but I'm basically too lazy to sit down and nail a solo note for note. Plus Mamma Mia wasn't noted for its huge guitar riff!! :D

Thank you!

It's a close toss up between my current G&L Legacy and my Gibson MIII Standard. I feel more comfortable playing Strat-type guitars, but the Gibson offered such a wide range of quality tones, plus it looked great! I'd like another MIII, but you don't see many about.
