Re: The Well LXIX: Chops T. Rocker: The B Sides

Your ideal rig.

So, how did Brenda walk into your life. and how did you first screw up Branagh's name?

My ideal rig? As in...guitar rig...?

A rather obscure amp, or an old Fender. My Strats, an ES175 (or similar) and a Tele with big fat humbuckers. Throw in some pedals, and I'm all good.

I first meet B2D when we were both in high school. I thought he was kind of full of himself (I only spoke to him two or three times, so I had no real idea) mainly because he played in a band with a bass that I couldn't stand. Said bass player was a bit full of himself, and I figured that B2D was the same way.

We actually got to know each other through one of my bandmates (and later one of his) when he came to one of our shows. We were in top form at that show and Brenno was impressed. We started hanging out from time to time and he did the sound at one of our bar shows. Later he joined the band for about a year, and we've been goofing around and playing music here and there ever since.

Just curious where your stong aversion to wood came from.. and if you have currently found a cure for it... lolz.

seriously tho.. what's the one genre of music you've always wanted to experiment with, but never have... and why?

Oh Cacha...
Welcome to the crack smoke filled room known as Brendan and Russ' "nerd time".

I don't understand the first question. Perhaps you've mistaken me for someone else?

I've got several genres that I would love to experiment with. Something along the lines of this. I'd like to experiment with a bit more of keyboards and overdubbing mixed in with a rap(ish) thing on top of it. Contrary to popular belief, I actually like a lot of different types of music.

I can listen to Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris all day. There is so much soul and heart in their music.

Oh yeah, the why...

JHR is awesome and I love the band and it's style. But it is very much has it's own sound. One day I'll make an album or more with each of these projects.

Hey Russ! I'm out of the hospital resting at my parent's house... should see you in a few days.

I can't think of a good question right now but I will soon!

I see Cacha's on the board. The jig is up! Run!

Does your motor ever stop running? Do you sleep? :D I had fun jammin/hangin with you, noticing that you are have a lot of energy.

From what I gather, you play bass and guitar; do you consider yourself primarily
a bassist or guitarist?

Are you one of the types who gets into the pickup-tinkering thing (i.e. swapping
magnets, perpetually changing pickups, etc.)?

What did you want to be when you when you grew up when you were 5?
Did you have an imaginary friend?

I am exhausted right now. I was totally drained during that jam. But I feed off of other people and their energy. When we were jamming, I believe that chops-wise, I was the real novice of the bunch. So what I did (and do onstage) is made my playing memorable simply because I bounced around and made a totally butt of myself so people would smile and laugh.

That was a fun jam BTW, we need to get something going for UGD for sure.

Depends on what day you ask me. I started out as a bassist, then I worked my way to guitarist. But the two times I've toured, I was playing bass. I'm a musician I guess, with neither taking the main title that I have. For what it's worth, I'm a much better bass player than guitar player.

While I am a gear nerd, I am not talented with that stuff at all. I'm more of a "research the snot out of it", get it, and keep it. My hands shake real bad all of the time, so soldering duties are always begged off of B2D. I'm a tone tweaker, but not that much by any means.

It might have a race car driver, a outlaw (cowboy type), a gypsy, or a rockstar. Those all seemed like viable options to me when I was kid. Age of five? Nothing specific comes to mind, but one of those sounds about right.

No imaginary friends for me. I had a couple of brothers and a couple of dogs when I was a kid. Other pets included rabbits and cats from time to time. I was a busy kid that made a lot of messes and "organized" the cupboards in the kitchen when I was real little. I guess I never time for one. lol
