Reining PunLowered
ginormous has graciously passed the torch my way. I can't imagine what else there is to ask me that has not already been shared in the previous 25k or so posts I've made around these parts.

At any rate, I will continue to share maniacal meanderings, preternatural ponderings, and hyperbolic ruminations with you in a more focused manner for the next week by limiting them to this thread.

I will respond to your questions. I promise that my responses will be just as serious as my other posts. Life is a terminal condition, and it is too short to treat completely solemnly or somberly.

Fire away! :rocket:

:cool2:

Disclaimer: I do not know how much I'll be around this week. I have quite a bit of preparation to do for a gig next week.

You always talk about food from your area. You are not huge and fat. What is your secret?

Re: The Well Part XXIV: Les Is More: Maniacal Musings of LesStrat

Do you scare small children and mammals?

Describe LesStrat in great detail. Pics would be nice, I'd like to see more than just the avatar.

Greatest quality a teacher should have?

Puns: why!?!? :D

In Before The Lock.
:haha: Barely.

Bro, I'm 5'7" and 185lbs. I weighed 125 when I joined the US Army in 1985.:( I weighed about 140-145 when I left the Army.
OK...

Ann or Nancy Wilson in 1978?
Yes.
Do you scare small children and mammals?
Only adult homo sapiens...although there was this little girl last year who cried as soon as she saw me...every time for 2 months.

LesStrat used to be a Squier Strat. The wood, bridge, nut, output jack, backplate, and frets are original. I got it for dealer cost because it had been scratched when a 3-tiered guitar stand fell on it. A Sharpie marker was used on it before I left the store. I messed it up a couple of years later by ineffectively applying black nail polish.

Fender Red Pearloid pickguard
Hot Rails Bridge
Cool Rails(n) Mid
Hot Rails Neck
Graphtech Saddles
Push/Pull pots wired in order of pickups to split the 'buckers.
Black knobs
Ping tuners

Greatest quality a teacher should have?
For students or adults?

Puns: why!?!? :D
'Cause they're punny.

How much lung capacity does one need to play the bagpipes to a decent standard, and should I wear pants with my kilt?

Would you like a piece of shortbread?

Great to see the Torch passed the venerable Les Strat.
Thanks Ginormous.
Anyhow, les, baby,....

You should immediately begin practicing corporal mortification for ever considering torturing others with your "talents."

What type of shortbread?
What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
African or European?
I'd say they go hand in hand so for both.
There have been many scandals in recent years involving teachers going hand in hand with students.
What does Perlus Wun mean?
It's spelled "Perluss Whun" or by its alternate spelling of +1.
You play on a worship team. Do you play mostly originals or covers?
I have stated elsewhere that our church has a Hillsong obsession.

OTOH, the pastor's son is a very good composer. I thoroughly enjoy playing his originals.
Favorite place to visit?
Restaurants.

Oh. You mean geographical locations. Switzerland and Austria are BEAUTIFUL countries. Southern Germany was nice. We enjoyed our cruise to Mexico, and we're cruising again this summer to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. I have enjoyed most of the states I've visited.
Favorite food?
At the moment, the beef fajita burrito at a local Mexican joint. You can't go wrong with pizza, unless it has no pepperoni. Crawfish etouffee, gumbo, jambalaya...they're all good. We recently developed an affinity for Thai food (garlic chicken :32: ). Oh, you wanted ONE?!?!?!??:?:
Rice or Potatoes?
Yes.

Your "go to" guitar and amp?
Parker Fly Deluxe, POD X3L. I really dig my Celtic Franklin, but for most applications here lately the POD is more convenient and versatile. Not to mention it is LIGHTER.:D

Describe your regular gigging grear?
Parker, POD. Next week I plan to take those, my Ibanez semi-hollow, Taylor 110E, and I'll supplement the POD with a Visual Volume and a Weeping Demon Wah.
What's the best cajun food? Crawfish? Gumbo? Etoufee?
It's all good. I'm not crazy about "red" Jambalaya--then again, I don't care for tomato-based meals ('cept for pizza).

Fact is Cajuns can cook ANYTHING in ANY STYLE. When I moved here, I asked a friend for a restaurant recommendation for when my family joined me. His response? "Pick one. Bad restaurants don't last down here." I have found his observation to be true. Ask jerryjg about the Mexican Grill I took him to when he passed through.

Nope. Still significant, but not enough "passing of the torch." There is a new movement for "French Immersion" programs, though.
HAHAHA

OK, what's your favorite pun?
One? I like them all. I especially like the off-the-cuff puns in response to posts in the forum. Here are some favorites:

*** Did you hear about the Buddhist who went to the dentist and refused to take Novocain? He wanted to transcend dental medication.

*** A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and met in the lobby where they were discussing their recent victories in chess tournaments. The hotel manager came out of the office after an hour and asked them to disperse. He couldn't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.

*** A women has twins, gives them up for adoption. One goes to an Egyptian family and is named "Ahmal". The other is sent to a Spanish family and is named "Juan". Years later, Juan sends his birth mother a picture of himself. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. He replies, "They're twins for Pete sake!! If you've seen Juan, you've see Ahmal!!"

*** A group of friars opened a florist shop to help with their belfry payments. Everyone liked to buy flowers from the Men of God, so their business flourished. A rival florist became upset that his business was suffering because people felt compelled to buy from the Friars, so he asked the Friars to cut back hours or close down. The Friars refused. The florist went to them and begged that they shut down. Again they refused.. So the florist then hired Hugh McTaggert, the biggest meanest thug in town.. He went to the Friars' shop, beat them up, destroyed their flowers, trashed their shop, and said that if they didn't close, he'd be back. Well, totally terrified, the Friars closed up shop and hid in their rooms. This proved that Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.

*** Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot his whole life, which created an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him frail, and with his odd diet, he suffered from very bad breath. This made him...

--a super-callused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

Other than Louisianner, what is the best place in the world as far as food quality?
None can compare.
That's harsh...he's not that old!

What is your favorite Gumbo (please identify key ingredients/style)?
I eat, I don't cook.:D Chicken or turkey with sausage is always good, but so are seafood gumbos. You must realize that gumbo basically means "throw everything in the pot." Cajuns were poor and hungry when they settled here. Why else would anyone look at a crawfish or a crab and ask, "I wonder how that tastes?"
What moment would you like to relive (up to 1 hour in duration)?
There was this one night in southern Germany...no, wait, that took more than an hour....
Guitar player that you would like to meet?
Forum brothers. I'm not starstruck. In that realm, though, Kerry Livgren and Rik Emmett would be interesting guys, methinks.
Guilty pleasure album?
I don't feel guilty about my listening habits.

I really like listening to the Best of Bread when driving distance alone, though. Easy to sing along to and stay awake. Solid song structures.
Problem with today's kids?
They're kids. That explains most of it.

There has been a decline in the number of them who develop a sense of personal responsibility, methinks. Partly due to family, partly due to society, partly due to how they are educated.

1) Have you ever driven a motorcycle through a huge wall of fire?
I don't recall ever trying that stunt.

2) Would you?
If I still rode? Probably. I tried many unusual things as a child.

3) Do you own any guitars you are embarrassed to tell us about?
Nope. I'm not a collector. The only guitars I've sold are a Yamaha e-acoustic, a Yamaha APX10T (it was dying), and a Parker Nitefly (to my Dad). Here is the family:
GTRFamilyresized.jpg

5) what happened to question 4? Did you do something with it?...Was it too embarrassing for you?
The answer would publicly humiliate you. I'm too kind to do that to a forum brother.

6) what is your favorite guitar/amp combo right now (not necessarily things you own, but maybe ones you would like to own)

-dave
I believe I would like to own a Parker Mojo. I have never seen one in person, though. Outside of that, a Melancon would be :cool2::cool3:
Melancon95k.jpg

A Charis acoustic would be sweet, too. Here is one held by my bud, Scott Bernard (he also owns the Melancon above):

I really like my Celtic Franklin. I don't know that I want another amp. I know that I don't need one.
