Re: The Well Part XXIV: Les Is More: Maniacal Musings of LesStrat
what's your favorite worship song and why?
At the moment, IDK. "Heart of Worship" is a recurring favorite though. It's a reminder of WHY we worship and to take the focus off the music. "Hear Us From Heaven" by Jared Anderson is another great song.
The band just learned "Better Is One Day." I've always liked that one.
I just taught a praise song to the worship team for Spanish church that I LOVE: "You Are Good" by Israel Houghton.
your favorite forum moment?
Hard to pin down. I like the way this play self-moderates; I like to see the useful advice given, both for equipment needs and life lessons. It has been amazing to watch SD allow us to design custom shop pickups, and then build them for us as reduced prices. I enjoy the whimsy of many of the members, past and present.
A recent moment that I thoroughly enjoyed was sosomething's "alien invasion" thread. That guy has a gift. He should exercise it more often.
Do you play regular at Church if so what is your set up? I am really curious?
For guitar, either the Parker or the Ibie with the POD X3L direct to the board--we use in-ear monitors with individual digital monitoring stations. I have been playing keys more than guitar for the last year or so. The church has a Korg Triton.
What were you doing in the Middle East in the early 90s?
I was a guest of the US Army--it was about one week shy of 1-year from my exit from active duty when I was activated. I lived at Khobar Towers for about 2 months. First two weeks (in Dharan): Operating a commercial bus lot. Most people don't realize that the troops were hauled to the desert in buses donated by the Saudis.
Next coupla months: Back into my 5-ton cargo truck: I worked for a supply officer who made local purchases of needed equipment. Then I would haul the equipment 300 miles out into the northern desert to battalion headquarters. After the first trip I began making it a one day round trip.
I watched the ground war on CNN, just like you guys. The supply officer miraculously did not order any supplies that week.::saeek: I believe he was afraid that if he ordered something, he might have to accompany me to the desert to deliver it.
After that, I rejoined my unit. We hauled refugees and POWs from Iraq back into Saudi Arabia for the remainder of my stay.
I learned that if I ever had to return to active duty that I would reenlist. The National Guard has a dearth of true "leaders." The troops accomplish their missions DESPITE the leaders, not because of them.
FTR: I was an E-6 Staff Sergeant. When my time to leave the NG arrived, I was offered a promotion if I would stay. I was told that I would regret it if I got out (funny, they said the same thing when I left the Army). The only time that thought has ever occurred was when I realized that if I had stayed in I could be retired at 50% pay. Then the thought passed.
What's Mrs LesStrat's job (apart from keeping LesStrat happy and fed)?
Kindergarten teacher in a parochial school.
