one word "de_dust"
One word: headshot.

Seriously, I hate that map. It's actually cool but why people only play that hellish map all the time is beyond me. At least play the modified versions, please!

In all truth I don't care about what map I'm playing as long as I'm playing Gun Game maps, but sometimes you have to play with friends and one questions the value of democracy at those times... lol

...want the Cyclone. Mostly as it'd be a great place for my loaned Stag Mag ;)

How does it feel to have stolen my great "poisoning the well" line that I had made up all in my head? But you added Furries, which I never could have done, so it's ok...

Anyway, your English has always been laudable (even moreso if you know what that means :D), how did you learn? I've wanted to learn Portuguese, I'm a language afficionado (pun averted), but the more Japanese I learn the more German gets pushed out...

I actually posted the ad in my sig cause I knew you'd see the pics LOL

I love tormenting you :laugh2: It feels great and having added Furries to the Well, it's as poisoned as it will ever be.

Laudable: from the Latin verb laudare, to praise. IIRC

I learned English from watching too much TV. My dad worked long hours, my mom had to work around the house and there weren't a lot of kids around where I lived so TV really was an educator. Sure, I played with kids and spent time with my folks but you know how it is.

My dad would take me out every Sunday and we'd rent a movie for the week. I'd pick a cartoon tape and they'd pick something we could all watch.

Problem was, at that age (before 6) I didn't know how to read and no one would read them for me, so subtitles were pointless. Eventually I started to piece together words and expressions.

I was the guy in charge over everything electronic around the house so I'd record all kinds of stuff on TV and play it back till the tapes died out and I could recite movie lines.

By the time I started school I could understand a simple conversation and by the time I finished my fourth year I could actually carry one.

When I was 14 I started going online at school. There wasn't a whole lot of stuff back then as far as I was concerned but it was fun going over to some sites (I loved going over to the NBA and Nasa's websites) and just read. The computers weren't really open to everybody but they'd let me mess around with them as I was pretty careful.

Never really had a good teacher till I started high school. The ones before felt insecure with me around or just weren't good teachers. When I got a real teacher... I started to feel some difficulties but I learned from them. That was about the time I got some books in English. Well, they were photocopies but it was good. I remember reading Huckleberry Finn and loving it.

That was about the same time I took Latin. While I sucked at it initially I started to get a feel for it and began applying it to Portuguese and English. If you know how a word was formed and where it came from it's a lot easier to use it to express yourself.

Eventually I figured that I knew my way around the language and I was always asked to explain some things to my colleagues. When the time came for me to choose what I would do after high school as soon as I saw my University had a course in English I knew that was really the only option for me.

Didn't really learn a whole lot there as far as English is concerned. The only things that I actually made use of were Phonetic writing as it helps you pronounce some words and explain to others how they are pronounced and Literature. Some of my most average marks in Uni were in English Lit classes but I loved them. Melville, Poe, even Whitman... That was what I was there for, reading good books and talking about them.

This year I'm giving classes as a trainee teacher. I teach English and Portuguese to high school kids and I must say I've learned a more about the language and about my limitations in this year than in the last decade. I'm also improving it and the forum is actually one of my benchmarks. I love to check out old threads that get resurrected and I'll notice mistakes I made.

I have to admit that in the last few weeks I've installed a spell checker in my browser so a lot of my mistakes are not even showing but the cool thing about a spell checker is that you learn what your standard mistakes are (as opposed to the kind of stuff you do out of a momentary lapse) and correct them even if just so you don't have to be annoyed by the little red line LOL

If you find any mistake, please let me know, I take that well, not as an offense.

In regards to Portuguese: Do it. It's pretty easy. We have a lot of immigrants and they pick it up in no time. The only thing they have some difficulty is with all kinds of pronouns and the fact we accentuate words when writing. If you want to you can add me to your IM of choice and you can practice with me. Imagine talking about setting up a Jazzmaster in Portuguese lol!

Don't remember of ever typing this much while being serious... :P

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

...I live in Southern California which means that I experience Spanish daily, though I believe the Mexican media influx that we get here is probably still not equivalent to the constant bombardment of English language entertainment that other parts of the world seem to get forced on them...

Anyway,I listen to some bossa nova, and things (predictably) sound more or less familiar to the rudimentary Spanish that everyone knows here... But to me Portuguese (or at least the Brazillian variety) pronunciation is scarily close to listening to the white man's exaggerated accent while speaking Spanish :laugh2:

I actually like English media at least as far as movies and series go as we don't have the means to pull those off. All we have around here are crummy soap operas and telefilms... yuck.
Brazillian is sweeter so I understand what you mean, especially if you're comparing it to Spanish. Spanish and Portuguese are pretty close, obviously, most differences can be explained by historical connections with other languages.

Why the obsession with bringing your geese into port?

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

Several 'portuguese chicken' fast food restaurants have opened up in my city in recent years. as far as I can tell:

-these restaurants appear to be australian and South African in origin
-and the chicken is essentially grilled chicken with chili

-either way, I'm a big fan.

So, does'Portuguese chicken' really exist as a local dish? -if so, are there any magic ingredients or preparation tips you know of.

Also, feel free to expound at length on local seafood.

Benfica or FC Porto? or some other?

Why so many good footballers for such a small country? who is your all-time favorite Portuguese footballer?

How about Nuno?

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

Know anyplace to get a good Portugese Paella?
Portugal is to Spain as....?
Any seaside resorts in Portugal with beautiful women to gawk at?
Whats the favorite wine in Portugal, is it port or sherry?
Why do the call it a "portugese" man-o-war?

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

I've actually been to Portugal. I was 18 months old at the time, so I really don't remember anything about it.

How do you envision your life 5 years from now? 10 years from now? 3,000 years from now?

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

What do you think of the idea of American entrepreneurs setting up a "proper" music store in a country like Portuagal?

I'm in the unique position of being an American in touch with investors and music gear.
I've though of importing really high quality yet CHEAP gear into music stores in smaller countries. Would this idea work, or am I wasting my time thinking about it?

I'm talking about starting music stores in countries that are starved for good gear, then importing the best cheapest stuff possible.....so that 3rd world consumers could afford it. I'm thinking of good Korean guitars of all makes being fully stocked in stores owned or partially owned by me.
Smart or stupid???

id like to think it is.

Sure is a local dish. Grilled chicken with hot sauce which is usually just oil and chillies with some whiskey added sometimes.

Personally I like to grill it with some olive branches thrown into the heat, mostly leaves, little wood. The smoke will give it a nice touch.

There are no magic ingredients, it really is just chicken and chili.

Also, feel free to expound at length on local seafood.
I would but I don't really like seafood, more of a meat man. There are only a few types I will eat.

We have all sorts of goodie things we mix with meat, like clams and navalhas (literally translated:pocket knives). You would do well to visit Portugal if you like seafood. Find a tavern, they will be cheap, fresh and serve you a nice quantity as opposed to a fancy place. They are all pretty much safe to eat nowadays as we have a pretty strong health department that supervises over restaurants and that sort of thing.

Benfica or FC Porto? or some other?
Benfica. I'm not a big football fan but I try to keep up with SLB's games. Porto... I'd like to see that team banned. First it's from Oporto and they have a big grudge on us for various reasons. Second, the current president is essentially a mobster that is one step away from being locked up, he's just awaiting trial.

Why so many good footballers for such a small country? who is your all-time favorite Portuguese footballer?
I asked myself that same question and found no answer, maybe because the sport itself is taken more seriously than in other countries so kids play dreaming of becoming players. It's not uncommon for kids to go to football practice from a young age and try their best to be noticed by scouts.

My favorite player? Don't know really, as I said, not big on soccer. I'd go with Eusébio, even tough he isn't Portuguese originally (and I don't buy that colonial crap).

How about Nuno?
Costa? Simões? Gomes? Bettencourt?
I prefer Bettencourt lol

Know anyplace to get a good Portugese Paella?
Portuguese paella? what are you smoking, man? LOL There is no such thing.
Portugal is to Spain as....?
Canada to the US. Everyone thinks the first is a state of the latter but they are wrong.

Any seaside resorts in Portugal with beautiful women to gawk at?
You don't need the resorts, they are everywhere, mang, it's an invasion and I can't wait to be taken to their leader!

Whats the favorite wine in Portugal, is it port or sherry?
Port, definitively.

Why do the call it a "portugese" man-o-war?
Because they thought the "fish" (don't really know what you call those things scientifically) looked like one of our man-o-wars, a type of vessel. Don't really see the resemblance but that's the story...

I've actually been to Portugal. I was 18 months old at the time, so I really don't remember anything about it.

5 years: Starting out my career as a teacher with a master's degree in English literature-horror (starting this next year).
We have too many teachers, not enough positions and classes that are too big so I'll probably just start by then. If they were divided into smaller groups more teachers would be have jobs.
If they lowered the retirement age it would help as well as a lot of people would leave and new blood could get a chance.

I'd like to be dating someone seriously. Living alone by that point with a human female of similar age with benefits.

10 years: Probably a decent teacher by then with a doctor's degree in something or other in the field.
Married, a kid or two. I'd like to think I'll be happy. If I haven't built a guitar by then I will give that up.

3.000 years... veteran of a thousand psychic wars, conqueror of R'lyeh, Jedi master, benevolent dictator of this solar system, ruler of the Middle Earth.

I think it's about time we had a couple of big music stores, there is nothing like that here, especially in the Center-South.

It's a huge idea but you should have some high quality, high price gear. For instance, not everyone will want/need/be able to afford a PRS but some are and they have to go to Spain for one. Don't get me started on amps... it's either Marshall or Crate around here.

And we are not a 3rd world country... we are starved for good gear tough.

It would be pretty smart of you. I'd suggest a store in Lisbon and one in Évora. A few hundred kilometers close but worlds apart. If too close go with Oporto and Évora. Évora has two music stores, one cool, one... let's stick with the cool one lol... none of them can find anything more exotic and we need a change, man.

It can be anything you want it to be. Me linea (thread) és su linea. lol

I'll come back later to elaborate on some answers I'm a bit busy right now.

We need you here!!!! we have only one company that is the exclusive Ibanez, Fender and Gibson dealer and they pick the most boring models (the only way to go around them is to sell 2nd hand gear), guys here are starving for good tube amps (no ENGL, Mesa Boogie, Dr Z amps here at all) - most of my gear was bought 2nd hand from guys who brought it with them from the US...

Come here you nitwit!

LSP

Describe with words the perfect tone you're trying to achieve (use words not youtube videos).

What made you pick up the guitar?

I know you love animals -
What was the most radical action you ever took to defend animal rights?

Do you think that the campaign against fur coats is more aggressive then the campaign against leather jackets because people are more afraid to mess with bikers then with old ladies?

LSP

I have a tough time describing sound as it's something subjective but here's my best shot.

It should be a clean tone, complex and rich.

To me this comes out of a single coil pickup in the neck (any kind, p90's are included). Some low output buckers get me there as well.

The amp (pocket pod or friends amps) comes into play when you set the gain just so as soon as the volume hits 10 it starts to break up. Starts, not really breaks. That way when I switch over to the bridge pup it has an useful grit but isn't really distorted and I can still use the bucker in a clean fashion by rolling it back if I want something that is clean but powerful. If I want some distortion or crunch the BOSS SD1 can do it.

Add a hint of reverb, just enough so you know it's there but it's not obvious. Sometimes a bit of chorus sounds cool too.

As far as the other controls go, well, I start off with all of them on neutral then add or take as I see fit in that particular day.

Don't let my forum gloss fool you lol
What made you pick up the guitar?
I don't know. I always wanted to play it. I think it was an old instrument we had around, a mix between a guitar and a mando (I'll take some pics for you) that I always picked up and made some noise with that got me the bug.

When Supernatural came out there were guitars everywhere, even in supermarkets. I figured that was my chance. Luckily my dad noticed they were crap and told me I'd be better off with something halfway decent later on. He was afraid it would be a lemon and I'd quit before actually starting.

The guitar he actually gave me, his old Stagg wasn't any better but it was available and I asked for it knowing it sucked. I tried my best on that thing and I think it taught me a lot.

I'm lucky enough to have guitars that I like. Now all I really need are some lessons which I plan on taking this summer.

Most radical action? This has a story but it's not really radical lol

I was at the door, talking to a friend who was leaving and my dog gets out on the street. Now, this was no biggie, sure she could have gotten run over but luckily there were no cars at that time. She knows she's not supposed outside but she always finds a way to escape.

Now, she's small but ferocious even if she won't attack you from the front, she likes to be a treacherous and bite when you least expect it but only if she doesn't know you or if she is afraid of you. We also take that in consideration in not letting her outside without a leash.

Well, she was out so we were trying to get her inside. That's when this douchefag jogs up the street, swerves by her and kicks her. When I asked what the fudge he thought he was doing he said the dog bit him. Lie, she wasn't anywhere near him.

Now, I knew this asshole, he lives down the street and no one likes him. I was about ready to pick up a shovel in my tool shed but then I thought of something better.

His kid usually liked to sit in the middle of the street acting retarded while people tried to drive. He'd see a car driving down the street and sit down, facing away from the driver. He did it to me a couple of times when I rode my bike and nearly flipped over as he'd start walking across the street than at the last moment sit.

So, I remind him of this detail and tell him next time I saw his kid I'd swerve by him and kick his teeth out even if he wasn't doing anything.

Now, I'd never do that but he didn't know that. Never saw the kid outside. Luckily he moved out a while back.

Fun thing, that same friend double dated with me, my gf and a friend of hers. We went to a park and he decided to throw a cigarette at one of the ducks. I'd have him go in the pond and get the cig back but the girls nearly flayed him alive :laugh2: He was drunk, in his defense, and he likes animals probably more than I do. Still he had to be corrected and he was.

Not a big defense of animal rights but it's closest I got. Never witnessed any big attacks on them so there isn't really anything I could have done.

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

*continued*

I don't get the campaign on furs. I mean, sure, raise an animal just so we can have it's skin, and torturing it for that skin... that's just screwed up... But fur and leather from animals you eat and all that should be ok IMO.

Sure, how can you tell which is which? Well, the amount of effort they spend should be directed towards doing something about just that, making sure what is available came from animals that would be used for a good reason. You can't tell me someone actually eats foxes, minx or baby seals? Well, maybe seals but most are just killed for their skin.

Then again I don't get it what's the appeal of real fur and skin, synthetic looks just as nice, lasts longer and most of the time it's easier to wash.

And yes, we could debate that keeping animals so we can eat is in itself wrong but we are omnivorous. We could eat other things but we need meat, we are animals ourselves. We go about it in a different way but we eat meat just as any other animal.

Plus... meat tastes good :D

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

Hmmm...

Your answer about your perfect tone brings raises next questions - how did you get your gloss? and do you feel it still fits you?

Re: The Well - Part XXV: LSP unleashes the fury (and the furries) by poisoning the We

I'll stop by a couple of times per day and answer all questions (all two of them) en masse to the best of my ability.

Speaking of abilities... do you use your powers for good, or evil?
