At the Fiddler's Convention in Galax Va, they used to play a lot more old time, but the purists ran them off. Pity, as there used to be a nice contrast between cetain parts of the park as you walked around. Now its all Bluegrass, and if there is a hot new tune that everyone has just got to play, you'll hear it over and over.
Then again, over and over is kind of the point of Old Time, eh?
Nowadays those pickers go up to West Va to the Clifftop String festival. A few of them still go to Galax, but the majority got too butt hurt over the Grassers showing in such numbers and talking crap about OT.
Have you ever played in a Bluegrass or Old Time band? If not, which instrument would you choose, and why?

I played bass in my dad's fledgling bluegrass band. It's where I learned to hate the sound of a banjo. I would choose guitar of course if I did choose to play in a band. I like guitar better than bass or banjo. Mandolin would be a close second and bass would be third for me.

My day would be the afternoon I met up with my then fiance after summer break ended in college. I was exhausted from staying up all night studying for an exam I had taken in summer school and I did really well on the exam. Then I met up with my fiance and we went back to my dorm room where I was too exhausted to ravage her and succumbed to the fog of sleep.
During my slumber I was being ravaged by my then fiance who had decided that she had waited long enough for secks and was going to have it regardless of my being conscious or not. In my unconscious mind, it's really hard to explain what I was experiencing because my body was feeling some seriously groovy stuff, but my mind was doing backflips because I was dreaming the whole time. Lets just say it's an experience that I'll never forget to this day. Incredibly powerful and absolutely unforgettable. More sensual than anything I've ever experienced in my whole life. All that and it was totally drug free and I'm certain it was more intense as a result of it being 100% natural.
I still carry a torch for that girl even though I know she's poison for me. I fell hard and I never got over it entirely.

Happy that a citizen like me can own something like that. Mine is a little different (no front grip, light, and a flip-up front sight). Gives me the warm fuzzies that people like us can have such sharp teeth should we ever need them.

What's a band that you like that either:
A. You're slightly embarrassed to admit to liking
B. Not embarrassed to admit it liking them, but it's vastly different than the rest of your music collection.
In either case, explain what they do so well that causes you to like them, despite it not being in your normal favorite genre(s).

A - Fatboy Slim - The "You've come a long way baby" album is sooo damned catchy. I am quite embarrased to mention that one.
B - Morphine. Not like most of my music collection, but it's amazing stuff. I like Morphine because they just don't sound like anyone else. That sax player has lines that are very guitar like and I appreciate that. They can go from being raucous to haunting. They had a lot of range and a lot of soul.
