The White Egret

So those of you who know me know that I'm pretty harsh about guitars. That said, I WILL give credit where and when it's due.

I've had pretty bad Gretsch GAS for about a year now and the whole time Christian (the guy who invented fire) kept telling me that I should try an Electromatic. I played a few and was very impressed with the playability. The pickups were even decent! I was pretty much sold on the idea.

Now, I LOVE the look of a white falcon, but wasn't about to lay down the cash to get those without knowing if I'd even be able to PLAY a Gretsch long term and I didn't have a cool 3k laying around

So I found out GC did a limited run of 5120s and I called the only GC guy I'll really deal with and asked him to find one if he could. After he told me there were 90 left in the US I ordered it. It came in a decent case and looked good and played good out of the box. Shortly after receiving it I dubbed it "the white egret" since it's obviously not a falcon, but is falcon inspired. There are little fit and finish things that could be better, specifically the binding, but for this pricepoint I got a LOT of guitar.

I took it to practice and the guys fell in love with it. The different look and sound sold them. I put the full size bigsby spring in it and now the vibrato feels more familiar like my B7.

Shortly after all of that I picked up a TV Jones superton neck and Magnatron bridge. These really pushed the guitar to the next level without even changing switches or pots (alphas) Tonight I just dropped in a TV Jones Classic bridge and decided to take a few pics to share, see below.

The supertron neck is round and warm, but DEFINITELY not a PAF type of sound. It style has more bite and spank than any regular PAF. It's also even different from a firebird pickup.

I'm about to go to the music room and play so I'll give you all the REAL rundown on the bridge pup soon.

Pics are too small! Need bigger pics!

Nice score bro! My (actual) brother is a Gretsch fanatic, owns several, attends all the gretsch events, etc.. I wonder if he knows about this model with that color scheme.

Ya know, I just noticed that they didn't come out as large as I thought. I'll try to redo the pics.

There aren't many floating around...he better act now while supplies last!

Very cool!

I've got a Duo Jet myself (a Professional series, not Electromatic) and it is super nice. There is nothing like a Gretsch. They are very distinctive and extremely well put together. The stock FilterTron's are really nice, but I'm thinking of putting a SuperTron in the neck like you did, and maybe a TV Classic Plus in the bridge.

For some raisin your pics are really tiny in my browser. I want to see it more betterer!

Re: The White Egret

I love the effect of the f hole striping. Alot!!

Super awesome guitar. I actually like it better than the Falcon (esp. the headstock).

Great choice. I'm glad you and your bandmates are enjoying the new sound.

Re: The White Egret

A little off topic, but I've always felt trons were much sexier looking than regular buckers or minis.
