There is something magical about a really good Strat

Working on one of those, too

I like the P90 in the middle. Mine is a Duncan Designed Strat Stack. With the Tele Stack in the bridge, there are very few tones that I can't find on it. I even use it for the two Social Distortion songs my cover band plays.

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

Kudos to you strat guys that have found the right ones. I've always wanted to love them, but I've only liked them. The best one I had owned was a '62 RI MIA Fender Strat and the alder, maple/rosewood combination just works in general for my taste (anything with ash or a plain maple neck ends up being too "plinky" and thin for my taste). I liked that one more than the '56 RI CS Mary Kaye finished one if anyone remembers that. I really am the happiest with my telecaster these days, but that's simply because a) I suck with using a trem bar and b) I prefer the sound of telecaster single coils (especially when mounted with the traditional tele bridges).

Play nice boys this is supposed to be a fun place remember?

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

Can't go wrong with Maple... On Fenders and on pancakes... :p

Seriously, I like all the permutations but I gravitate towards Alder/Rosewood. More of a feel thing rather than sound. Its the texture on the fretboard, though I've been using higher frets these days.

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

I must say that since you hate Fender's so badly I do wonder why you even bother to open these kinds of threads.

If you see a thread on Epiphones or magnet swapping please, feel free to open it up and tell us everything you know but since you have nothing to add to a discussion about much else do us a favor...please??

Oh, Christain, let it go. Free country and open discussion, your blessing isn't needed for anyone to participate. You've certainly had your share of posts than have been less than informative or positive, this thread being an example. BluDave started this thread with one sentence and turned it loose. It goes where it goes.

Just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should...

I could participate in my own way with the "free country and open discussion" (which really means jack-**** to something private like the SD Company) by saying how much SD suck and Dimarzios are the best.

And because someone else's posts have been "less than informative or positive" does not grant you permission or 'freebies' to do the exact same.

"It goes where it goes"; this thread used to be about strats, but it went in a completely different direction because people thought they need to exercise their ability to post, even if their post would contribute nothing and cause fights.

And I am not just referring to just blueman 335, the other party in this argument isn't entirely innocent either.

That being said, let's all be nice, try to contribute together, and try to stay on topic without pointing fingers.

I say we stop fighting and just embrace the awesome-ness of a good guitarist with a good strat.

Now I don't think any one will disagree with that! I was listening to some MKII Deep Purple awesome strat tones.

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

I haven't played many and never owned one (only the 'super' variety), but the one in this vid is seriously good sounding - dat neck pu...

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

Love my strats and my Tele's.
Had about more than I can remember by now.
Got settled on two really good ones, and have a few cheap fun extras for distraction and for the kids!

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

I'm still looking for a great '62....... I'll remain patient.......a good year for Fender but not necessarily for all remakes.
I have a couple others......but strats remain my favorite.

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

Ergonomically, I think the Stratocaster is the best design ever made for an electric guitar. I own three currently. Finding a really good Strat in my experience takes patience, since there are so many varieties, places of manufacture, etc. Sometimes a pretty good Strat, or even a weak one, can be turned into a really good Strat by just replacing some electronics, or bridge or other fairly simple work.

+1 Exactly what I think.

Add me to that sentiment. It's the basis behind my Minimulist wiring scheme. Add a switch to select series-mode, and you open up a whole new tone palette.

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

Just bought my 13 th Strat so I guess that means I am a fan! They just seem comfortable to play and have more variation in sound than most others. It seems I always reach for a Strat when I just want to relax and play without worry about being able to get a particular sound.

I can use a strat only and totally cover every song and style of music our band plays...Via the right amp and effects in the equation also.I normally will bring an extra strat,SG,LP,or a tele along for a gig though also..

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

I think that is where I get into trouble with my strats though... trying to make them do too many things. I've had them set up with straight single coils before for either SRV/Hendrix type blues or for Surf guitar. They sound great, but I find that I don't pick them up enough if they are configured like that.

Right now, I have it set up for SRV in the neck, Surf in the middle, and Van Halen-ish stuff in the bridge. I play it all the time, but to be that versatile, I have to give up something in every position. The neck pickup would sound best with 11's, down tuned half a step. The Middle would sound best tuned to standard with a bright set of 10's. The bridge humbucker would actually sound better with a 500k volume pot, but I can't get above 300k or the single coils tend to sound too bright and raw. Its still one of the best guitars I have though. I can't get those first 2 tones with any of my other guitars.

Re: There is something magical about a really good Strat

When I speak of Strats I speak of FENDER specifically or Teles the same thing. I am a blues/blues-rock type of player and I lean more towards traditional tones and both Gibson and Fender do this better then most others do, aside from a hand made guitar...

some of my strats are fenders (mij maple, mia rw, mia maple) but i find myself playing the hamer the most. flatter fret board, sperzel tuners, great neck shape and a great chunk of wood.

I'm no Van Halen, but I can cover the earlier "Cream" tones, but then also be able to do "Sultans Of Swing' with the same strat...Alot of it as I mentioned,is the amp and the effects in between to get certain tones..
