The dude is quite young though, so I can see the bad tone as his lack of experience WITH tone. Not bad really playing wise, kinda dry and too slow of a tempo, but he played it nevertheless.

He's got some sort of really messed up flanger sound on his tone with the feedback, depth, and mix set entirely too high and it's making his guitar sound like a carnival ride. Gross. What a shame... looks like he's got chops though. He'll learn.

I agree with B2D and add if his bent notes were up to pitch it would have sounded better, but that is fingers.

I was just stoked that a young guy could play that good and is obviously interested in doing more than playing Fall Out Boy or Slipknot songs. Honestly I think the audio quality of the footage is aggravating the flanging sound you're hearing.

I didnt care for the tone but that boy put a lot of effort into his playing, over all he did a good job!

I'd have to agree with Skoora it's the recording that makes it sound worse than it does. It might have sounded good live....The recodring even makes the drums sound muddy so of course the guitar part is going to be hosed too. Probably the built in mic of the video camera is what captured the audio too.

He's talented for sure. But I just don't think he's playing with quality equipment. Listen to candid recordings of Stevie Ray Vaughan from the early 80's. The audio quality is not great, but you can tell that he sounded INCREDIBLE. Similarly, the audio quality in that clip was lame but so was his equipment obviously. Either that, or his settings were just ****ed.

After the song started kicking & he ditched the psycho-flange, it wasn't horrible. As a bunch of others said, "He's young & he'll learn."
When flange is used as a subtle effect it can be nice and spicy, and chorus in moderation can definitely thicken up a part. You just don't want to crank the depth and set the rate to nothing...
