Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Never liked blondes, until I married one....

That's funny, I never liked brunettes until I married a blonde!

Come to think of it, it wasn't until after I married (and divorced) two of 'em! [emoji33]

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I used to not like using single coil guitars in heavy metal, but having a screaming bridge single coil is actually pretty *****ing when playing non-downtuned black metal.

About 6 or 7 years ago I hated pedals, I was the archetype for 'why not just have a good sounding amp. Now I prefer my pedals and the different textures I get with them and the amp I play into doesn't matter as much.

Guitar-wise I used to only like guitars with dark bursts, or with browns and blacks. Nowadays seafoam green gives me automatic GAS for a guitar.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I hated Fender guitars with a passion. Now I own four of them, 2 Strats (HH, HHH) and 2 Teles (HH, HS). For the record all of my Fenders have humbuckers. My old drummer put it in the best context he said: "it seems like you hated Fenders until you could make them sound like Gibsons." I still have little use for single coil pickups.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Semi hollow and hollow body guitars. When I was young, they just looked like something an old jazzer or fusion guy would have strapped up high. Once I got my first ES-335, it was like a revelation. The guitar felt more alive and resonant......something you don't quite get with a solid body.

I didn't like single coil bridge pickups till I was around 21 yrs old.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

One, humbucker Les Pauls. I started on Fenders, and I have owned a Leo Fender-designed guitar of one brand or another for my entire career. In my younger days, I could never get a sound I liked from a 2HB carved top Paul. Just too muddy, and that held for most all 2HB Gibsons. I had a P-90 LP '55 Special Reissue, and that worked great. It wasn't until I started playing with a band again in the '90s that I began to explore HB pickups, and finally got my first carved-top LP 1960 Classics in 2003. And those were greatly improved with Seth Lovers and Antiquitys. I have eleven Pauls now, and though I sometimes struggle with ergonomics, the 2HB is a valuable tool for my music.

The other thing is that I've always preferred sunburst and natural wood finished guitars. But since 2002, I've acquired several opaque color guitars and I'm really digging them. I have G&Ls in black, gold metallic, silver metallic, Lake Placid Blue, Fullerton (Fiesta) red, Baby Blue and Bel-Air Green. My Takamine 12-string acoustics are ALL black, not natural! I've even got a Martin D-18GE in Sunburst, which is blasphemous! LOL! I blame my girlfriend, but the reality is that every time I open up a case around here, it's "WOW!" I am truly blessed with a lot of really nice guitars.

Maybe this old dog CAN learn a new trick or two!

Used to love solid colors and hated wood grain, but I learned to buy only guitars where you can see the wood. Used to hate 335s for no reason other than the snobs that played them, now a Casino is my #1. (It's just a 335 with P90s)

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Asymmetrical guitars (now I love the mustang shape and I'm jonesing for a Bass VI) and sunbursts (OK with them after getting a sunbrust VM Mustang bass).

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Fenders (guitars and amps)
Pickguards on LP's
Covers on humbuckers
Plain maple caps

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

As I kid in the '80s, I couldn't understand the allure of basic Strats or Teles, which seemed wimpy next to the Floyded metal monsters of the time. But years later, I got it. Big time. :cool2:

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Jumbo frets..... but they are growing on me.

I still hate Fender anything ha ha ha

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

Still "dislike" Bigby's,tho...

Ditto brother. But that just goes along with me hating vibrato's in general. I always thought the Bigsby looks like a fender puller. Not the guitar, the fender. On your '63 Impala that you ran into the light pole 'cause your girl was . . . wait. I'm getting off topic.

Re: Things you disliked, but are OK with now.

I didn't like humbuckers, now that is pretty much all I use. But many of my biases still remain...there are lots of things in the guitar world everyone loves, but I can't stand.
