Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

Boost, any recommendations? middle of the road price, no fancy boutique, but no fish and chips either. Just kickin it around now, would be for metal application, no freebird stuff.

The Boss FZ2's boost function is pretty nice. Treb/bass, volume and gain. There's also an insane amount of fuzz on tap as well if you choose.

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

I've got the Behringer one and it pushes my HM2 far more effectively than either the stage 3 boost or the boutique bassy boost pedals I have. Id like to get just the boost and tone controls in a separate pedal.

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

I have several boost pedals (like, 6 or 7). I love 'em!

What are you boosting, and for what purpose? Is it for more gain into your amp? Or as a solo boost through your fx loop?

A good boost for the former or latter would be the Nick Greer Sweetback driver.
If only for the former, the BB Preamp is great and very versatile.

just a boost in muscle i suppose, not in volume. this ideology was brought to attention due to myself owning 2 pretty ok OD's, and being used to that process, then acquiring an amp that has a boost feature, and i feel my OD's are not required, now me confused, as to maybe i need a boost pedal to experiment with the head with no boost, and i use OD wif. blehrurrrrp.

Lots of people love the Maxon OD808 for metal. If I had the dough I would buy one. IIRC they are under $200 new (I think in the $170 range).

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

I wholeheartedly agree with the Wylde OD and Maxon 808

The Wylde especially for metal cuz it naturally has an awesome aggressive sound

i have both maxon OD9, and OD Pro +, was looking for more of a boost, maybe im retwadid, and there is no difference, that is a possibility, as i type with two fingers and one eye squinting.

i have tried the OG ZW OD, was not impressed by it's performance, but would try that new? one?. is it the same joint?

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

Yeah the Wylde OD is killer for simultaneously beefing and tightening up your sound. Look into the MXR GT-OD. It has an internal switch that turns it into the Zakk Wylde circuit so it's two awesome sounds in one.

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

OP, what settings did you try the Wylde Overdrive at? It doesn't have much distortion on tap, but it doesn't need it either.

I run mine with the Volume and Tone cranked amd the Gain all the way down. This kicks my amp in the teeth with a nice fat volume boost that brings out more harmonics and a little more grit. It works great, especially after I modded it to run 18 volts. ;)

good dear sir, i have zero clue , it was a while ago, and i dont recall it being the smoothest. my amp gets kicked in the arsewhole on the reg, one of my OD's is also 18v, maybe i am the one confused and OD/Boost are so similar, that im tryin to find a window? just an excuse to experiment.

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

He meant the Fulltone Fatboost, if you haven't already figured out via google.

Re: Thinking about getting some sort of pedal

I haven't got one yet, but I'm thinking the (electro Harmonix) metal muff, with mid scoop.
