Thinking of replacing my '59 in the neck with a phat cat.

Re: Thinking of replacing my '59 in the neck with a phat cat.

I was also just thinking... If I want to get closer to a strat tone I wonder if it would be a good idea to use a 250 or 300k volume pot on the PC?

All I know is that my JB bridge sounds great in parallel

Yep. A great tone from the JB when in the parallel mode. Reminds me a bit of a nice Tele lead pickup. And it's still humbucking. Lew

Hey guys. (guitar in my sig) I use my '59 in the neck split exclusively. I would really like a strat over anything, but just can't part with this guitar and can't afford a strat right now. I really love the tone of a real single coil in the neck (my favorite tone). I play blues and like tons of other pursue an "srv" kind of tone.

What I'm wondering is will a phat cat move me closer to what I'm looking for? I'm hoping for it to sound clear and open like a traditional single coil but with a little more output. You guys know what I'm wantin...

thanks

The Phat Cat won't sound like a Strat...but it'll do a great impression of a P-90. Very differant tone though. I don't think there is any way to get a Strat neck pickup tone without a Strat neck pickup. Does Stewart McDonald Guitar Supply or Allparts or WD Music Products sell a humbucking size mounting ring that you can fit a Strat pickup in? Someone used to make something like that...that would be the way to get what you really want. Then you could put an Antiquity Surfer Strat pickup in your guitar and you'd have just what you're looking for. Lew

Wait! There is one pickup:

What about the overlooked stag Mag as a neck pickup?
Splitted you have a "true" single-coil, in humbucking mode you have something between a PAF and a single-coil. :smokin:
