If you were to swap the RCA5 out of a WLH bridge pup for an A2, you'd end up with a slightly underwound '78 I'm guessing...

I don't think the winding pattern is the same in both p'ups.

That was the one varaiable I couldn't account for. Anyway, just thinking out loud, you know...

And its quite a big variable too. I'm not a winder myself, but having spoken to about half a dozen of them about pickups the common theme was that much can be accomplished just by varying the wind

Changing out the magnet for an A2 will produce SOMETHING..... and it would be interesting to hear what it sounds like. I say go for it and report back.
