Third dumb strat question

Empty Pockets

Well we attempted to wire my friend's Squier again with hotrails/stock singles and this time it works, but there's this constant annoying hum that drowns out the notes. You can hear the notes and the switch definitely activates different pickups, it's just humming!! What do we do?

Re: Third dumb strat question

This is the type of symptom you get if you have excessive resistance in the signal path somewhere, probably on the ground side. First thing I'd do is just double-check all your solder connections. Also, make sure wires aren't touching some place they shouldn't.

Its hard to be more specific than that. Let us know.

Re: Third dumb strat question

+1 on what Artia said... this is my favourite... it happens, if your grounding path is broken somehwere... check all wires, but especially the ground wires... if you did anything to the output jack ground solder point, check it too... if not... also check it ;)

Re: Third dumb strat question

that should actually be the first thing to check :)

Re: Third dumb strat question

Check your output jack and make sure you didn't wire the black wire to hot and white wire to ground. Lew
