This has curbed my GAS

Won't be buying anything too expensive for awhile now.

Got a Guitar I finally love, and an Amp (my MESA F-50). I do think I wanna upgrade the few pedals I use though :D

So here she is...I named her Paula :D

Plays great, sounds excellent, QC was damn good. The flame is very subtle, but it's really started to grow on me

Apologize for the crappy pics...cheap digi-cam...or operator error, I cannot seem to figure out exactly :D

Well, I dont have a website to upload them too unfortunately and the files are too big to attach..grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

It's my new 05 Les Paul Standard...Cherry Sunburst.

Re: This has curbed my GAS

The flame is VERY subtle...which I actually am really starting to like. At first I was a bit disappointed, but it's really grown on me...not so "flashy". Almost looks like a plain top most of the time.

Jeff -

Nice looking Lester. I used to think that I wanted a LP with the mega flame, but over time have come to appreciate the sublte beauty of less flamed models. I still don't like plaintops, but the one that you have (mine is very similar but in lightburst) is very classy and refined. It was the top on Scott's 58' lester that got me away from total flame tops.

Glad you found one that you like....that is a nice sunburst too, not like some of the "clownbursts" that Gibson has been famous for over the years...nice subtle transitions. Play her in good health and enjoy!

Thank You. I agree. I have gotten away from the the really figured tops too. They are gorgeous for sure, jes not my preference as I've gotten older

My Heritage 150 was one of the "clownbursts", and bugged me. The Reds were really red, and the yellow was really yellow, and the transition was too abrupt. The flash going off on these pics actually makes it look more red and yellow than it actually is. The last picture in my post is actually more representative of the actual color. The "red" is a darn near like a wine red paul, and the yellow is more "orange" than bright yellow.

I *may* switch pups in it , but I'm still not sure. I was not totally happy w/ these BBpros at first as they seemed a touch too bright and middy. However with some amp adjustment I've been able to dial in some great tones out my crappy valvetronix. They are pretty articulate under high gain for a "low" output design. They are the best stock Gibson PUPs I've ever encountered barring perhaps the mini's in the deluxe I sent back (that guitar had phenomenal tone/playability... I will buy another someday). When I get my MESA back, I think the BB Pros will pair up w/ it really nice as the F50 is voiced a touch "dark" on the gain channel compared to Marshalls/Soldanos, etc.

Only other thing is to get the pickguard installed. A Paul jes doesnt look right to me w/out one :D

The Vox? :D

My new speaker was supposed to come in Friday or this monday from MESA. Should have it back this week all ready to fire up :D (next purchase is some recording equipment so I can get some clips up)

Or did ya mean my 1987X that you can kinda see in that one pic of the back of the guitar?

Re: This has curbed my GAS

I meant the F-50. I love those amps! Only MESA amps I truly like!

Re: This has curbed my GAS

Beautiful top..I prefer subtle flame on a Burts, gives it more of a "´59 Burst vibe" ;)

Re: This has curbed my GAS

This is bloody living proof that Gibson still makes killer axes.

Re: This has curbed my GAS

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I'm really happy with this one. It's not flashy, but the sound and playability are there and it's not ugly or full of QC issues like my Deluxe was (sad...cos that one was even nicer than this standard for tone and playability).

Everytime I pick this one up, it's one of those great experiences where ya jes don wanna stop playing it, and you play better. Finally broke a string last night and didn't have any of the correct guage around, and was so disappointed I had to quit :D I kinda was in denial about being a 'gibson guy" for awhile (which I was for many years, even when they weren't "cool"), but there's no doubt now in my mind that they just fit me the best. I went through about 6 or 7 diff guitars since OCT to come right back to where I started almost 20 years ago.

As for the F-50. Yeah she's great. Really versatile. I can get any sound out of it I want, clean, dirty or high gain: Def MESA's "sleeper" amp. Very dynamic and touch responsive...another piece of equipment that inspires me to play. I've had a ton of Marshalls and several other stock and modded tube amps from Laney, Jackson, Fender, ADA, etc...and I was never satisfied with them. This is the first amp I've owned that I don't feel the need to sell, trade-in or get modded to suit my tastes. Jes want a 3/4 or fully closed back cab to go along with it. I would like to get an adjustable bias put in so I can try some EL-34s for grins, but at this point I'm not willing to void my warranty.

I like how this thread is titled This has curbed (not cured) my GAS :laugh2:

Most definitely Ben I chose the words in the title very carefully :D ;)

I still wanna upgrade my pedals. A Mesa V1 Bottle Rocket for a lead/volume boost, a new Chorus (unsure..def analog tho), a new Phaser (MXR EVH Phase 90 or small stone), and a new (analog or digital that sounds analog) delay.

I like my old 80's Boss pedals (well the DDL is an early 90's Boss, but I digress) they sound much better than the newer Boss stuff...but they are startin to get beat up, the SOD is not doing it for me w/ the F50, and I've always wanted another MXR since I sold my original many many moons ago.

I've kinda come to the mindset where I want one really good guitar, one really good amp, and a few high quality pedals, and then jes need to work on getting back to or exceeding the skill level I had in my younger days.
