This is EXACTLY what *This amp sounds like thread

Re: This is EXACTLY what *This amp sounds like thread

That was a prototype head as well - it's in a pre-Hiwatt Sound City shell that became the Hiwatt CP-103. Dave Reeves was doing a lot of custom builds for guys like him and Page at the time:

Page used Hiwatt SAPs from mid 69 through the end of '71 (Royal Albert Hall was Jan '70). It's a totally different circuit from the typical Hiwatt (much more Marshall-like) with only two inputs instead of four. The CP103 OTOH is much more closely based on the DR103 but with a different tone stack and a volume knob for each of the four inputs.

I've been looking for a dry metal 5150 tone, but I'm seeing a lot of production muddling. I'd like to hear a band with a really dry, bone-scratch old 5150 sound. Anyone got any ideas?

These were Ampeg SVT prototype heads - even the guitars are going through them, though not through what became the standard 'fridge' 8x10" bass cabs:

I still have this album from my dad's Vinyl collection.

the sound of a cranked Ampeg VT-22/V4

Not a song, but how about a whole album? Marshall JCM800 2203 with 6550s into 4x12 with EVM-12Ls. This is the album that made me ditch my 5150 and go to single channel Marshall simplicity<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/EIcrVYnZ--4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
