This is happening...

I just about fell over when I saw these were hitting the market and the rock n' roller in me simply couldn't resist.

May my amazing, incredibly beautiful, caring and undeniably generous wife forgive me when she finds out what I've done...

Re: This is happening...

OH YEAH!!!! PURPLE PAIN, PURPLE PAIN.... PURPLE PAIN, PURPLE PAIN....

LOVE purple!! LOVE V's and LOVED the few Gibson V's with the block inlays... total win!

PLUS... The biggest thing I dont like about Gibson vs.. No jack in the front..

Love the block inlays; love the purple; love the TOM & STB; love the quasi-symmetrical headstock. Use it in good health.

Nice!

Purple is a good color for a pointy guitar. I've got one myself:

Now, if I could only get the Custom Shop to rewind the pickups for me........

Re: This is happening...

Nice! Other colors?

At the moment, Trans Purple is the only color the V-1 Custom is available in.

Nice looking V, love the '58 style. How do the stock PU's sound?

This bad boy is still on its way to me, so I haven't tried out the pickups in person yet. They are the newer "Pasadena" and "Pasadena Plus" models wound in the California custom shop.

The bridge is 15K, A5 and has an intentional upper mid push. The neck model is 8.4K, A5 and seems to be voiced for warmth with a little extra power so it splits well.

Here are some samples on Schecter's SoundCloud channel: LINK

Re: This is happening...

Not to jump the gun or anything, but then, it is Friday night and I have consumed a few. But if you don't find the stock pups just fine (which you probably will) I would suggest that A4 in the neck and UOA5 in the bridge will turn that from a classic find to a monster classic find. Sound wise at least.

Re: This is happening...

Mmm, everything looks better in purple, and I am not even a V guy, but this is so much win!

Congrats man and enjoy her in good health :headbang:

Re: This is happening...

Thanks guys! I'll have to post some pics when it gets here.

Really excited about it. Finally, a classic V that oozes modern rock and roll and ticks all the right boxes for functionality.

I'm also interested to see if they fixed their upper-horn "issue". The older V-1 models had a slightly shortened upper horn, likely to avoid design infringement issues with Gibson, but it appears they lengthened it slightly this time and relocated the strap button compared to older models. Since I love offset-V's (Jackson Rhoads, ESP Alexi, Kramer Vanguard, etc), a mildly offset V that keeps those classic Gibson lines would be right up my alley!

UPDATE: It's Here!

Pics forthcoming...I promise!

November 2015 production date: This has to be one of the very first made! It appears to have been manufactured by World Music in South Korea.

The top has some "flame", but the figuring isn't as deep or shimmery as I would like. Still, a very pretty guitar (looks very much like the stock photo above).

I can confirm that the top horn is ever-so-slightly longer than the bottom. This is a serious visual improvement (at least for me) over the older V-1 models.

The guitar is really resonant and far lighter than I expected. On the scale, this bad girl comes in right at 6.6 lbs fully loaded!

The factory specs indicate a 3-piece "Maple" neck. However, I'd bet someone else's retirement that this one has a 3-piece Mahogany neck based on the weight (or lack thereof) and what I see through the finish.

Neck profile is the standard Schecter "C" shape (1st Fret- .787”, 12th Fret- .866”). Noticeably rounded through the back, but not bulky. Fairly similar to the modern Fender Strat "C" profile.

1-5/8" nut, 24.75" scale.

Setup seems pretty good out of the box.

The details are what really separate this from the lower-priced Schecter offerings:

  • Output jack is on the inside of the upper horn, just like my nicer Jackson Rhoads guitars
  • The lower cutaway yields great upper fret access without detracting from the classic V shape
  • Locking TonePros tune-o-matic bridge
  • Schecter branded locking tuners. Probably made in China and definitely more bulky looking than Gotohs or Schallers, but unbelievably smooth!
  • Ernie Ball compensated graphite nut
  • Rubber surrounds on the speed knobs are wonderfully grippy!
  • Push/Pull coil splitting
  • Transparent satin finish on back of neck looks and feels awesome!
  • Fretwork looks to be killer (I'll verify after final setup)!

Later today or tonight, I'll try to put the electronics through their paces.

So far, though, I'm very happy with what I see! Definitely a lot of guitar for the price.

EDIT: The action is fine, but I'm a little worried about how close the bridge is set to the body (almost bottomed out). I'll add pics in another post for comment...

Re: This is happening...

Awesome!! I expected it would be killer! All the Schecs Ive played in last few years have been really nice. Some of the low line ones feel their worth, but most are above price range. Cool features.. I love when the input jack is done like that! I very much dislike when they plug straight in to front of guitar. (gibson v's etc) Dont care for the look and seems like it would be much more prone to failure having the cable weight pulling on it. Curious to know how the Schecter pickups sound??
