I've seen these tuning machines somewhere before - maybe Asian, maybe Italian. And the peghead shape is throwing me for a loop. Any clues?

cant say ive seen those tuners before that i can recall. that headstock is somethin though. almost as good as whoever strung that bad boy up!

Fascinating, what kind of guitar is it?

I thought it could be a Lyle SG but it’s not a great match

Unmarked acoustic guitar. Doesn't seem to have much of a finish. Double pickguard made from white sparkle formica.... Actually sounds decent, action is quite high.

I've spent a lot of time in Europe playing guitars in little shops which are a maze of unfamiliar makers

-those definitely feel like something like a Denmark St never heard of the brand tuner on a guitar to me.

Matsumoku, featuring on various guitars in the 60s and 70s: https://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/matsumoku/parts/matsumoku_closed-gear_strip_tuners.php.

Sure thing. Like you and the others in the thread: 'I'm sure I've seen those before'. Any guesses about the guitar itself? Don't think I've seen that headstock shape before.
