To celebrate the release of Spinal Tap II: The End Continues in theaters and IMAX on Friday, September 12, we took it upon ourselves to build a custom one-off humbucker in tribute. Our Custom Shop wound this humbucker to deliver an eye-watering, earth-shattering 111k DCR—because of course, it had to go to (one hundred and) eleven!
And yes, that means it's louder. In fact, we believe this special pickup has the highest output of any passive humbucker, ever. This was such a fun project for our Custom Shop team, and while it’s not currently headed for production, we'd like to have a little fun with it

so stay tuned!

As far as I know, it doesn't have a name, yet. What would be some suitable ones?

I would think "The SpinalTap" would be the natural choice. Since you've used their logo, I'd assume you've already worked out trademark rights / licensing.

I'm confused as to how this was even manufactured. At 111k, the wire must be absurdly thin (likely 48 AWG, although with the right coil geometry 47 might be possible), how is it able to be wound without the wire breaking?

And with 47 or 48 AWG wire, this is going to be one really lower-midrange focused pickup.

Since it is probably pretty hot and thick, I'd go with Big Bottom.

"Big Bottom" makes me think of Queen. (Fat Bottom Girls.) Not the right sound.

If you look at the pic closely, the bobbins appear to be about twice as deep as regular bobbins. I'm guessing that's how they did it.

I have the Colossal Incantation which is 40K. Trying to tame it is a challenge to say the least. I can't imagine trying to dial in that beast.

Tell me it is tapped.

The obvious names are, Spinal Tap, Tap or Eleven.

Alternatively, the Over The Top (OTT)

Can you hear the sustain? It's not even plugged in. Well you would hear it if it was plugged in. How about naming it Stonehenge?
