Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

Re: Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

I don't know about that, all i now the amp builder has a well trusted name here at my country, so i think bias was set ok. i think the cab needs to be rewired with higher gauge cables.. and those speakers loose some harshness while they are well broken in. for classic heavy rock sound there i have treble at about half, middle at half, bass on 6 of 10 and the sound is ok. but as i raise the preamp gain up and boosted it with SD-1 i have to shot the presence down, and set the middle at about 2 of 10, and treble at about 1 of 10. then i have some serious thrash metal going on ! maybe all i need for now is MXR 10 EQ in a loop, to tame a little trebles down, and push the gain a little and bass for fatter, less harsh heavy solos... what you think about that?

Also i have put one G12T-75 in my Orange 1x12 closed back cab, and then i run the JCM 800 2204 on those cab as well as on my 1960 Angled 4x12 cab.

i noticed bigger low end at master volume at 6 to 8 of 10. below that it's not that good..

Otherwise the sound is fuller for classic heavy rock than for some serious dark low end metal i think. but for some thrash is fine, but with settings on.. i already write about it.

The G12T-75 has noticable more inherent bass, putting that in the mix will beef it up some. And yes, speakers have to broken in so crank that master volume at rehearsal.
An EQ post gain might be a good idea, though I never thought that to be necessary with my Marshall. Is the harshnes still there without the boost? If not, maybe you could check some other boost/od that works better for your setup. Maxon od820 is quite a bit warmer and smoother for example.

Re: Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

I don't have stock SD-1, i have the used one, with the Monte Allumns Mod. i will try some others, if i could find somewhere.

edit update: i cannot open the SH5 Custom on the bridge at full. it sounds really harsh. at about 7 of 10 it's ok. but for solos i found out that is better to put the bridge or neck pickup on 10 and close the tone control to about 2 or 3. with less gain the sound is fuller and more acceptable, and i run now the treble on 3 and presence on 3, bass on full. maybe that modded SD-1 is just overkill for that amp. i tried Bad Monkey with better results.
i figured out i need just slide boost, because the preamp itself has enough gain. just a little push and it's enough. that modded SD-1 is a bit too strong for that. i will try an Equalizer i think.

i have an active fx loop installed. is that ok for MXR 10 EQ ?

and don't get me wrong... i know when the high distorted sound is too messed up. too much of something. so i turn the SH5 Custom volume control from 10 to about 7. at that point it really cleans up some unwanted annoying noisy frequencies from the whole sound. G12H30's are not that defined and clear if you want that razor blade palm mutted metallic sound. so maybe i will go back to 75's some day. for now i am gonna let the Annies and V30's a chance. and the SH6 Distortion on the other guitar i have.. it's just overkill for that amp in any way. if i compared it to SH5 Custom... the sound with Custom has more low end, and less annoying mid spike. and has a bit lower output than Distortion.

thank you for directing me in the right way :)

No problem. Good to hear you're on the right track.
MXR 10 band should work alright. It has a gain and volume control in addition to the EQ, so if your "loop out" is too hot, you can turn down the gain on the MXR to prevent unwanted clipping.

Well, as for boost.. i cannot get the Maxon, but i can get Marshall Bluesbraker or Marshall Guvnor 2. what do you think about those two ?

I have a Marshall Guv'nor mk1 and I like that one a lot for boosting my Marshall. I know Bill Steer of Carcass uses the same one and Gary Moore had one too, but I wouldn't how it compares soundwise to the Guv'nor 2. The same feats seem to be there though as far as EQ goes.
MXR has the custom micro boost coming out which is basically a clean boost with EQ. Might be worth the wait.

G12T-75's sound great with a 5150. I really dislike them with my DSL 2000...it sounds much better with G12H30's.

Re: Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

I find my SD-1 GT pretty harsh on an overdriven amp with the SD-1's tone set anywhere above 10:30 or so. It sounds really, really nice to boost my cleans a bit, though.

Re: Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

I want all 4 speakers to be G12H30 Annies.. until that i will have a mix G12H30/V30 in x pattern. i will try out Marshall Guv'nor 2.

Re: Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

Ok, enough of trying and ****ing with bright ones sounding speakers. i simply don't like V30 with my JCM. i also don't like G12T75 speakers. and i tried out those G12H30 Annies, and they are to ice picky on highs. now i am gonna go the opposite way and sell all of those and buy 4 G1265's for my Marshall 1960 Lead cabinet. i think those well be allright.

I dunno dude... if the G12T75's werent cool.. and the V30's and the G12H 30's... I got the feeling the G12-65s might not fix it for you... If 3 different sets of speakers havent sounded good it might be time to start thinking its not the speakers...

Re: Those G12T-75's drives me crazy...

I use Eminence Man-O-Wars and Governors in an X pattern in my 4x12 and it's my absolute favorite speaker combo for just about anything. It's like the G12T75/V30 mix but smoother, louder, fatter, and more controlled. Once I started using those I stopped looking at speakers - I'm very happy with them and I think I just like the way they sound. I'll use any amp with 'em.
