those little fretboard LEDs again

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

WOO! Street Glow for guitar! I should get one... it would be useful in a dark playing area.

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

Hmmm... you think it would fit a tele? probably not because the battery pack is on the back on the strat head, whereas a tele has a thinner head.

Damn, those blue LEDs would look sweet on my agave blue tele

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

I looked into these too, but haven't ordered a set yet. It seems to be better than the others out there, which are either actual LEDs installed and cost a lot or some huge strip you put on the guitar and can clearly see.

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

thats the dumbest think i've seen in a long time

i had an idea once, to replace the 2 dot inlays on the 12th fret with 3 LED's, and make it into a tuner, run the wires down the truss rod cavity, and yeah

that seems like a way better idea

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

The one guitar I have with a 25.5" scale cost less that the LED unit.

....

You´ve obviously never played on a stage with next to no lighting, much less had a gig where the lighting went out  ;)

I´ll probably try them out before X-Mas, just to see how well they perform. I still prefer LEDs embedded into the fretboard, but as has been stated this is VERY costly, even if you´re a Luthier and do it yourself ;)

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

About embedding the LED's in the fretboard...

Zerb gave me a link to a website in German to buy LED'S but I basically couldn't figure out what was appropriate or not to the task! Which LED's would I have to buy?

Also, is it possible to have them in custom shapes, or do they only come in circles? It would be amazing if you could get an LED blank or something, and then carve out shapes that would light up! Is this possible or simply imagination? ;) Sounds too good to be true.

Sorry this is kinda off-topic.

Actually there was a company that made tuners that were built into the pickup rings of LP's and the pickguards of strats. Pretty much invisible unless you saw the mini-switch and looked at it from the player's POV. I believe they were called Optronix Profile tuners. I have never been able to find one for sale though... the company mustve tanked. Here's a pic.

Actually as for the dark-fretboard idea that IS a little bright... one of my friends actually paints the white dots with glo-in-the-dark nail polish but he has to leave the instrument in the sun before a gig to get it to work.

Sabine did the same thing (not 100% sure that they made the Optronix, but looks damn familiar), and when I wanted to buy one I found out that they had been discontinued ´cause nobody wanted them ;)

Holy shizzle!

That's an awesome idea! I'd buy one and have it installed in a second!

I also like the idea of glow in the dark nail polish on the frets as a lighting tool. Does this affect the fretboard wood in an adverse way?

Well what he did was he painted a small rectangular strip of it on the edge of the fretboard where the side markers are, and he also maked it off so no excess paint got on the actual frets and boardat all. It occassionally wears and chips off so he's planning to laquer it over so that won't happen, but then theres the chance that the "glow" property will fade over time and it'll need to be redone again.

I think there was a company similar to warmoth that actually made zircon AND glowing side markers that were permanent.

Re: those little fretboard LEDs again

Reminds me of what Pete Steele and whatever the guitarist´s name in Type O Negative do. They play black guitars, but the neck is painted over front and back at the "marked" frets with day-glo green. ;)

Man, I wish they still made that. Ever since I bought my Hirade classical (Takamine's higher line) with the tuner by the EQ I've wanted my electrics to do that too. Hopefully someone brings it back.
