P-90's in SG's can sound incredible, as Townsend, Santana, & Iommi showed around 1970. For both tone & value, GFS Mean 90's are excellent, and they sound like real P-90's. Phat Cats don't, with their stock A2's. I tried them in SG's and LP's and they were very dark in the neck slot. But with A5's they sound like a P-90. I haven't seen much positive about P-94's. They were an attempt to reduce noise, but also gave up a lot of tone in the process.
For HB's, PAF-ish PU's are a great choice. Duncan '59's are a nice match with an SG's natural abundance of mids. If you prefer a warmer neck, an A2P or PGN would be good. In the bridge an A2P or WLH. Some people find PGB's to be on the bright side, certainly brighter than some expect. JazzN's are bright & clear, which doesn't seem to be what you want. For a hotter bridge, a Custom 5 (SH-14) works well. JB's have a hit or miss reputation in mahogany, with an 'ice pick spike' and 'flabby low end' being evident in some guitars. For someone wanting a warm neck PU in a mahogany guitar, the Hot Rodded set could be a disappointment. It does not work in everything. The Custom series on the other hand, takes many magnet swaps well and is very good in mahogany. When I joined the forum the most common recommendation for SG's was a SH-14 and a '59N. That was replaced by a Custom 8 (SH-14 with an A8 magnet) and a '59N, as the Custom 8 is warmer with more mids and output. My favorite Custom is with an UOA5 magnet, which has richer vintage tones.
