Thoughts on stock (490's?) pickups on SG faded

Hi all, I just got a real sweet deal (I hope) at me local sam ash...a lefty Gibson SG faded special. $530 new with plastic on pickguard but had been played for a day or 2 and returned. Hell even if they are exagerating it feels plays and looks new...anyway had to gloat as lefties usually can't get great deals like this. Now the stock pickup sounds good to me (which I think are called 490's but I'm not sure) but I am thinking of being a snob and gettng some Duncans just to really kill with this thing...any suggestions in a SG guitar to be used for Rock/Country/Blues? Thanks in advance and if any of you have this guitar I'd love your thoughts as well:33:

Dual 59's.

I'd go with rio-grande BBQ's if you're wanting to look else where, might be a bit dark tho.

I just put a 490R in my Epi LP (in the neck of course), and found it to totally over-thick and muddy. It was totally wrong. Instead of pitching it, I re-wired it permanently to a "parallel" wiring scheme (easy as heck). Parallel wiring retains the hum-cancelling, with a little less output...but a clearer, brighter tone. You will need four conductor wiring for this, so if you see a pair of green/white wires shrink wrapped against the outer pickup wiring jacket, you can do the parallel mod.

This was an example in an LP body. You may glean some info if you think the tone is too muddy in the neck.
