Thoughts on the 59/custom hybrid for 80's metal

Re: Thoughts on the 59/custom hybrid for 80's metal

Ha, I am not a big blues fan either.
But check out the 80s Sabbath...it is worth it. Heaven & Hell, Mob Rules & Born Again are wonderful.

damn no blues either... you really are on the fast track to hell.... highway..hell, its more like a bullet train.. j/k

hey man we must be twinning with our rigs. i run a kramer striker 211 mahogany/maple with all maple neck into a DSL100h with some cheap marshall cab. as a huge 80s metal guy ive experimented alot. with my beformentioned kramer ive got a JB in it and i get really close to winger's easy come easy go tone with it but if u dont like it u dont like it. ive never really used a paf style bucker before and am anxiously awaiting my sh-5 custom to come so i can put it in my backup superstrat. i would look into getting a volume box annuater for ur amp. i bought mine from Carls custom guitars for 20 bucks and its great look them up on ebay. i also would recomend some type of overdrive i use the digitech screamin blues for my adventureous hair metal solos. the volume box is very important cuz it allows u to do a evh type push the tubes and save the ears. it should be noted that alot of frankenstrat builders are known to use the duncan 59 to achieve that glorious brown sound. (mean street and Kramer 5150s) had 59bs

Honestly, I've always considered most 80's-era classic-rock/metal tones to be copied quite easily with just about any medium/high-output into a high-gain amp. (with maybe a front-boost for thrashing or solos)

I guess my mind's-ear just isn't all that finicky at or around those classic-metal gain levels.

My verbal description of a middle-of-the-road classic-metal tone is something like;
"clear lows that sit high and ride tight,,,,,,,,,,,,, warm grinding mids, in-between wet and dry,,,,,,,,,,, and treble-bite that's clean enough to sound sharp and glassy but still hot enough to sound lively and excited"

To me classic 80s ditortion is:
- very compressed
- with an emphasis on the mid high
