Re: Thoughts on the Peavey 6505 combo
Personally I don't care if it was made on Neptune. I don't care if some kid had the same sorts of tube issues with his 112 that I did with my last Bogner. Yeah I read the 112 posts there. One guy said his was basically falling apart after 15 hours. Okay. Well mine isn't; it's a right stout bastard.
I love mine, and the head version I have sitting next to it.
As usual, clips, and hearsay, are more important than an owner's opinions. It's a great product. Sounds great. A bit of a different animal than the other versions, and that's great too.
People say they're interested in comparing the versions. It's interesting that the "sound" ie the Marshalley Green and Soldanoey Red are similar across all versions (112, 212, 212+, head, head+) but they have different power designs. The 112 is the sweetest sounding of course because you need to raise the master higher to match the volume of the other more powerful amps, if you know what I mean, but it becomes quickly obvious that comparing different power amp designs is silly, except to actually compare power designs. The preamps all sound the same.
The 112's biggest surprise is the pretty cleans. The 112 is surprisingly good sounding in general for such a small and mean amp that is meant to deliver Lovecraftian horror.
Evil Lite.
stuff about made in China = bad and how he read on a forum that some folks had problems with the 112
