Thoughts on the Peavey 6505 combo

Re: Thoughts on the Peavey 6505 combo

stuff about made in China = bad and how he read on a forum that some folks had problems with the 112

Personally I don't care if it was made on Neptune. I don't care if some kid had the same sorts of tube issues with his 112 that I did with my last Bogner. Yeah I read the 112 posts there. One guy said his was basically falling apart after 15 hours. Okay. Well mine isn't; it's a right stout bastard.

I love mine, and the head version I have sitting next to it.

As usual, clips, and hearsay, are more important than an owner's opinions. It's a great product. Sounds great. A bit of a different animal than the other versions, and that's great too.

People say they're interested in comparing the versions. It's interesting that the "sound" ie the Marshalley Green and Soldanoey Red are similar across all versions (112, 212, 212+, head, head+) but they have different power designs. The 112 is the sweetest sounding of course because you need to raise the master higher to match the volume of the other more powerful amps, if you know what I mean, but it becomes quickly obvious that comparing different power amp designs is silly, except to actually compare power designs. The preamps all sound the same.

The 112's biggest surprise is the pretty cleans. The 112 is surprisingly good sounding in general for such a small and mean amp that is meant to deliver Lovecraftian horror.

Evil Lite.

Re: Thoughts on the Peavey 6505 combo

This thread really got derailed into a Chinese hate thread trainwreck.

I've said again and again how much I despise Bugera, but that's because of their blatantly ripping off others' designs. Where a product is made is COMPLETELY irrelevant. If you want to call a product poor because it falls apart, then BLAME THE POOR QUALITY.

When I was younger, I wouldn't touch a Samsung product with a ten-foot pole. These days, I think their quality is fantastic. My Blackstar is made in Korea, and it's fantastic. I had a very reliable made-in-China Randall for a while. The problem does not exist in made-in-America vs. made-in-China. The problem lies in bad quality control and perhaps cheaper parts.

I wish there were statistics available concerning reliability, or that I knew how to access them. I'd be interested to see the correlation between place of manufacture and failure rates.

I tried one a while back. it was very good at getting rectifier type tones, i always thought it was kind of dark, that might have been the guitar I was using though.

I didn't feel it was low quality.

Re: Thoughts on the Peavey 6505 combo

Like i said I'm sure that the products made in america use chinese products anyway. I'm not hating on China. I am simply saying yes the 1x12 is made in china and yes there are problems i've read about but i would simply attribute that to being a new product still in the first generation of design. I have a Vk100H that i've had for 3 years and haven't even had a hiccup out of it. It's performed flawlessly. That is made in china and that is a peavey product. peavey makes qualiuty products regardless of where its made. I just prefer have a head a cabinet rather then a combo that's all.

Re: Thoughts on the Peavey 6505 combo

Fudge yes, that's absolutely right. I'm so very glad Peavey exists.

I love my Wolfgangs (just as much as my Ernie Ball EVH) and every Peavey amp I've had as my tastes changed. Bang for buck to say the least. My (properly tubed and biased - big, big difference) 6505+ head is my fave amp of all time. (Contrary to every 6505 thread ever, the cleans do NOT suck. Especially after getting mine tuned up, I can get GREAT sounding 6L6 cleans EASY. No, not floaty dreamland, but pretty dang good for a Marshall.)

*--------------- EDIT: the people who usually complain about "crap cleans" in 6505 threads have never plugged a good Stratocaster into one.----------------------*

They were even making those goofy-looking drums a while ago, and those were pretty cool, too.

But to the sailor in the OP, I was on a fast attack sub from Reagan to Clinton, and I wish to the Anointed One and the jolly Buddha that we had gear as portable and awesome and affordable back then as the 6505+ 112 combo. The biggest sounding Marshall in the smallest package, what a trip.

As I said earlier, Amp of the Year. The green channel with the crunch mode on is so fudgin MONEY it is shocking.

Frankley, What i would like to see Is a 6505 with a 1/2 power switch and a switch to choose between 6l6's and el34's instead of making 2 verions of the same amp (6505 and 6534). one would think it would be more cost effective. But all of the peavey's i've ever owned have performed like champs. no exceptions. Loud and raw.
